free hardware is not so alike to free software, but both have some
similitude. But imagine to boy hardware with no warranty and doesn´t work.
With warranty you are saved, but if not that would play against the
manufacturer. So, should free/open hardware have warranty? Just give me your
Ok. Thank you very much! But why apt don´t removes all directories created
by the program? or maybe aptitude does?
Yes, I know, but if i reinstall the program, it keeps with its settings,
appearance and everything. That´s what I mean when saying that i don´t know
any way to delete/remove program´s data in Unix
I installed torlaucher extension in Abrowser, because it failed on connecting
to the Tor network, I used to watch YT videos only (because of the HTML5
player). The problem is that now I start Abrowser and it appear me a message
saying "Unable to start tor, the Tor executable is missing" and
First of all, this is optional. When I refer to provide me the .deb packege
is for the program you want me to update, so I upload it to the repo
Yes you are right. For Trisquel 7 it won´t be a good idea. Now yes. And
considering than Trisquel 8 (as the previous versions of Trisquel) it won´t
update every package included in the repository
I thought on creating a ppa with all packages in Trisquel that have never
updated since 2014 (e.g. LibreOffice, GIMP, Rhythmbox, and others) and a
forum in launchpad to discuss there which packages do you want me to upload.
of course if you want me to update a package, you have to provide me
The only thing I know about free software on cars is that some of them have
Android as an OS. But of course, they work with non-free software, because if
not, we would see the car in the FSF website with the RYF award (hahaha
sounds ridiculous)
Free software movement is very strong, now I see why corporations are scared,
but I do not know if they understimate that. Few time ago I convinced someone
to install Trisquel, he asked me to install Windows 7 but I free his mind.
I´ll install Trisquel on his machine, soon
I read that GNOME and LXDE were going to continue as the official GUI
environments. When Trisquel 8 arrives, many things are going to be posible,
for example I´ gonna can install Plasma 5 (through PPA)
Again, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS was already relesed. What canonical launched today is
the satble version, nothing else.
It´s kind of confusing
What I understand up to now is that this drivers are "propietary software"
which some parts you can apply reverse engineering and by doing that you must
us a GPL based license (LGPL or GPL). Right?
iscan (image scan) is a driver for epson scanners. I have the Epson Stylus
CX5600 (compatible with free software), but Trisquel includes only the
printer drivers. I´m doubtful when thinking on installing. It´s free
software (GPL) but in one article says some binary code is copyrighted
m so I think that maybe this year Trisquel 8 can be launched. Look at
this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LTS
I want a fast VM, and that does its jobs. And of course, a libre one
You can make an exact copy of free hardware. But open hardware you are given
an idea to do it, and does not takes into consideration ethical stuff
And can I do the same in Tor? Because it´s free software, right?
I understand your point, and I do. But when I start my USB on a PC which runs
propietary wifi chipset, should I use an external USB wifi card to connect to
wireless internet?
The only thing I want to do is to play YouTube videos with a free software.
Actually I´m using HTML5 everywhere but some videos cannot play
How can I have the compatibility with Media Source Extensions, MSE & H.264
and MSE & WebM VP9? This is in the case of the Tor Browser
So why Abrowser supports it?
Well, propietary software is propietary software (obviously), and you know
how bad is it. I cannot assure that this info. is real or not, but what I
think is that is not far away from the truth. Anyway, if it´s truth, for me
is not a surprise.
I already made a forum here
http://trisquel.info/es/forum/pulpino-open-hardware-microprocessors
and PULPino is not the only free and open hardware microprocessors, there´s
also lowRISC http://www.lowrisc.org/
mmm... and when there is gonna exists Hurd distros apart from Debian GNU/Hurd
I mean, which kernel has more hardware free compatibility?
It´s kinda funny to find computers that work perfect with linux-libre
distros but laptops almost always fail on the free compatibility with its
wifi chipsets. I was thinking on buying the Netgear WNDA3200 (see
I am tired to do the stupid captchas that require javascript. I hate that
system. Always selecting images like an idiot or writing non-sense things.
And the worts of all is that it only happens with Tor, ¿Is it a punishment
because I have privacy in the net or what?
And the Website will be written in javascript? Or you can choose the langage?
I have the Enigmail extension for Thunderbird to make work GnuPG. But I sent
an email to another account that I have, but in the body instead of appearing
what I wrote, appeared this:
-BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-
Charset: utf-8
Version: GnuPG v2.0.22 (GNU/Linux)
The good thing about Linux is the openprinting drivers (which are mainly
Epson printers) & Trisquel should include the free drivers for HP (HPLIP).
Because HP printers are also very used and these drivers are free/libre,
opensource & light
I hate that screen reader. If you really find it unuseful for you, just
remove it.
#apt purge gnome-orca
So is like a virtual machine?
About the laptops with touchscreens, there are touchscreens compatible with
the linux-libre kernel?
So, what´s this? a combination of UNIX and DOS?
Oh yes, your´re right. Some people does not how to use Tor in a good way.
I´m sorry, it´s not seaking, it´s speaking
Yes, but every update brings more compatibility. It´s good to have free
drivers, but there are no printers that have received the RYF award.
But that´s not a big deal. If you want to upgrade it, do it. & yes, Tisquel
6 LTS is supported until 2017
https://trisquel.info/en/trisquel-60-lts-toutatis-has-arrived
https://trisquel.info/en/trisquel-gnulinux-601-lts-upgrade-release
Well, free hardwareand open hardware are not the same. But free hardware
motherboards don´t exist. Only open hardware.
PULPino microprocessors are based on RISC-V. In summary, this microprocessors
are 32-bits & it has one core. It´s licensed under Solderpad License,
without copyleft (Apache based).
RISC-V is licensed under the BSD license so that´s why ARM microprocessors
aren´t free (If I´m right).
So, the

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Stable will be launched the 21 of April. It´s important for
the Trisquel community because Trisquel is based on the LTS versions of
Ubuntu. The bad thing of that is that we have to wait 2 years for newer
versions. That means that probably Trisquel 8 will be launched this
Well, if you look well at Windows´ (specially 7) interface, is literally a
copy of KDE. Widgets (Gadgets in windows), simple settings, beautiful themes
and icons, and people think that is original. I would had like to change
inmediately to GNU/Linux-Libre, but I went form windows to Xubuntu,
Well, if you refer to the next release, I would like to see KDE and XFCE. But
actually I got the default GNOME DE and installed KDE 4. I like plasma
becouse is very friendly and easy to use.
That´s weird, because it it would be like that, there would be many
computers with the RYF award. Why open hardware develpers don´t include free
UEFI on their boards?
Do I have to know how to program? To compile packages? Like to make the
development faster and efficient, I have to be a professional? I really like
this distro and I would like to help in that side.
Not the language, the app owned by Oracle. Java is propietary software, and I
have some programs written in java. Can I replace it or not?
Oh thanks you very much
I mean, among Intel, AMD and ARM, which of them offer more free
compatibility?
I even comment there, but I´ll pay more attention
Searching and searching I have found that Ubuntu 14.04 cannot install plasma
5 with APT. But I can compile. But where do I get the compilable file?
Between C/C++ & phython, which one should I learn first?
A last question, the linux-libre kernel is modular right? I soppose so
Ok I did everything of what it said in there, so now what?
just add the PPA but instead of installing "plasma-desktp" install
"kde-plasma-desktop". The disfference is that kde-plasma-desktop includes a
minimal set os apps necessary for KDE to work well (install kde-standard for
all the apps for kde)
If there is a Free software foundation, what about a free hardware
foundation? A foundation that works actively to make free hardware with free
software only. Computers that would have yes-or-yes a 100% free BIOS and os
too. But, does not exist, do you think we need a FHF (free hardware
And the most important, Debian does not promote free software
OK, thanks. And by the way, what for is it separated from the kernel?
OK, and already made disappear the private software considered OS.
Sometimes I ask myself ¿Why people use Windows?
Beacuse, you can´t compare it to GNU/Linux
This is the result
Wait... What? you are wizards. Now I connected my HDD and guess what. I
CANNOT COPY FILES!!
But is not encrypted or sth. like that. What is it?
It´s a 1TB Toshiba HDD, it connects with a 3.0 usb cable. I already
installed Trisquel on a 32 GB pendrive (usb 3.0 too) and worked, so I said
"cool, now with the Toshiba external HDD" but as sth. had to go bad.
It´s not a problem with the partitions, but during installation in the
Linux Libre started having blobs since the version 4.2, but it didn´t lasted
so long. As the power of freedom is huge between us, the new version of Linux
Libre launched on the 10th of january made disappear all those blobs from
v4.2. Now we are free and updated at the same time.
Hi, I had window$ in /dev/sda2 and GNU/Linux in /dev/sda3. I deleted the NTFS
partition and expanded the ext4 partition, but the fs got damaged. Tried to
fix it with GParted, the terminal (fsck, e2fsck) but nothing. I tried with
e2fsck but at the end this appears to me (in Spanish):
Error
you should take a look to this post
https://trisquel.info/es/forum/gnulinux-libre-con-blobs
2 things:
1) that´s what I did before (didn´t work)
2) How is Multisystem compared with YUMI?
2 things:
1) that´s what I did before (didn´t work)
2) How is Multisystem compared with YUMI?
When I opened multisystem it said I had to mount my pendrive in /media, but
in Trisquel it mounts in /media/user/usb_name, so I changed the directory to
/media/usb (usb it´s my hdd), but still not working.
Why this happens? How can I fix that?
Ok, so in conclusion Debian is near to be recommended, but developers should
take more seriusly the work.
Ok, already boot. This is what I did:
1- Deleted the previous 4.3.3 linux libre kernel
2- Installed the new kernel with apt
3- Reboot
4- Log in!
jbar, I was about to explote because of the compilation and all that, but
never thought it was so somple as wriying one command in the terminal!!
Hi everybody, I updated my kernel following the instructions from many
websites (because I´m not a developer, so don´t use advanced concepts with
me) and finally I could, but it gives me a kernel panic.
I was like Yes! Finally I could do it! but then me was like Oh, Jesus!
These are the
Hi people, I made this same post in spanish but I want your help too. In the
title says everything, I need help for the instalation, I don´t wanna
decompile it, but I don´t want a pre-compiled kernel.
I downloaded Linux-libre v4.3.3 and tried to decompile it (by the easy way)
and tried to
Here I give you some details, the ones who know, tell me if I can.
Processor: Intel Celeron E3400 2.6 GHz (2 núcleos)
RAM: 4 GB
BIOS: American Megatrends (AMIBIOS)
HDD: SATA, 500 GB
Graphics: Intel G41
OS: Trisquel GNU/Linux 7.0, Windows 7 Ultimate
I read that Windows doesn´t work with
Hi everybody, I downloaded the latest version of trisquel mini but I wanted
to create a bootable usb & tried with Universal usb installer, but as there
was not an option of "Trisquel mini" I selected "Trisquel" but when booting
it gave me errors. I know in Trisquel exist the usb live
Hi, I updated my kernel to the latest version, and I wanted to know if it was
still low latency like the pre-installed ones.
# dpkg -l | grep linux-image

I supposed so, once from all the times I tried appeared to me a message
telling me that it was probably a problem with the HDD or the CD (but it was
an USB, so i laught when it said I had to clean it). But it´s strange, what
kind of problem would be, if I can perfectly do the partitions with
but it gives me the same error: (initramfs) mount mounting /dev/loop0 on
//filesystem.squashfs failed invalid argument
The title says everything, how can I stop it? It gives me errors, obviously,
I don´t have Icecat
I did what is said here in
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/how-to-create-a-larger-casper-rw-loop-file/ but
didn´t work. I have all the versions of Trisquel, and i would like to save
the changes. How can I make it work? It wasn´t so simple like copy-paste, or
it´s impossible?
