How can I make it scroll normally over bookmarks/RSS without the list
disappearing ? Has anybody had this issue ?
Linux Trisquel spins the fan at a higher rate than Windows 7 for my Thinkpad.
The fan has been replaced recently and new cooling paste applied. I would
assume because Trisquel is a smaller OS than Win 7 it doesn't create so much
heat. ( I have no idea if that's even remotely correct ).
I've
I was having a scrolling issue with Trisquel on Thinkpad X60 32 bit. Now that
a Thinkpad X200 64 bit is being used the scroll problem has followed me.
It's not as bad but is still happening when I scroll using the USB mouse
wheel. Holding the cursor over the bookmarks/RSS list and scrolling
I made a backup of the home folder and applied it on the X200 and it worked.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I've made the mistake of copying files from the Thinpad X60 to a USB stick
then moving them to various folders on the Thinkpad X200.
/dev/sda1 which is ext4 and
/dev/mapper/trisquel-vg-home which is xfs
All the files got dumped in ext4 directory. I can now see that's for system
files.
Loaded Trisquel 64 bit successsfully onto Thinkpad X200, SSD. Apart from
copying bookmarks over from the X60 32bit, can the settings be copied or do I
need to start again ?
Thinkpad x60, SSD- 44% full
On boot up the desktop is the last to load and it hangs with a spinning wheel
until I click on places/desktop, then it loads the desktop icons. This
happens a lot now. Been happening for a long time.
Is this common ? Is there a fix ?
How do I open thinkfan ? I assumed there would be a simple GUI.
user@user-ThinkPad-X60:~$ systemctl status thinkfan.service

I don't know what to do about thinkfan.
It has installed but I cannot find/ start it. Is this a command line only

but it didn't work so then tried 'fan control'and it didn't work. They both

Damnit that was short lived. Return of the scroll issue already. THe cursor
really hates being scrolled over RSS, or scrolled too quickly. But only with
USB mouse.
If it is a 945GM display as suggested I don't know how to fix that. uninstall
then reinstall display drivers ?
Turning off smooth scrolling in Pale Moon preferences/advanced/scrolling has
calmed the scrolling glitch some. Hasn't eliminated it but the scroll is less
prone to closing the browser when rolling over rss.
It only me took six months to try it without smooth scroll. 20 goto 10.
Got it. Copied web page address, right click desktop, create launcher, choose
location, paste address into location, ok.
I'll celebrate with a lollipop.
How do I put a shortcut to a webpage on the desktop with Trisquel ? The web
address can be copied but how can it be pasted, as there's no option that I
can find ? Tried drag and drop but that didn't work.
Hi,
The PRLibrary was me being messy and should have been Windows Portable
Runtime Library WPRL.
I use VLC for radio streams, so thats good to know. Will update now.
Good morning,
As my computer is never used remotely does it need the RDP and PRLibrary
software or do other apps & progs require it ?
I ask because 1.0 MB of security updates are available.
Synaptic shows it as now installed.
What is Glib snapd library, a 92 kb security update? I ask because it is not
already on my syatem.
I watched the same youtube video using windows then my Linux machine, the
video was 52 mins;
Win 7 = 709.4 MB
Linux Trisquel = 417.17 MB
The Windows machine has a faster processor and more RAM, the Linux machine
has Trisquel and a small SSD.
Trisquel wins.
The Win7 pro machine has been running the same copy of windows for 9 years.
Since 2016 have been following Woodys group B security only updates. (woody
on windows) Automatic updates are turned off. The only 3rd party prog running
is netmeter. 160 GB 5400rpm HD on the win 7 X200.

It was two different videos. One was recorded with skype (UK), the other
recorded from a mobile internet live stream platform (US).
I just assumed youtube was the same for all videos. Silly me.
Today watching a 1hr10m youtube video and downloading email and some surfing
resulted in 1.433 GB download with a Win 7 Thinkpad x200 laptop.
Then using my Linux Trisquel machine to watch a 1 hour youtube video and some
surfing resulted in 199.58 MiB download on a Thinkpad x60 laptop.

Sorry I have no information on how to modify the design. As for ready-made

not familiar with altering the look/shape of icons.
Thanks sahill and Beko, job done.
Found it. Placed it. isn't this fun ? Marvel at its diagonal stripey

Hi, using photorec how do you search for only icedove email files ? .eml ?
The deletion worked, thanks. Strangely there is now 4% less space on
/dev/sda6/home directory.
when rm -rf recup_dir* is run with terminal it fails to delete and says
permission denied.
I ran the scan on the Linux partition and now have nearly 700 folders. To
delete them it asks for p/w every folder. I can't go through thousands of
files like this.
How do you delete these recup_dir folders all at once ?
I made the mistake of deleting most of the emails, 4 years worth, thinking
they would still be on the server. Forgot that even though the 'leave
messages on server' was ticked, so was 'until i delete them'. After
downloading all the email the first time, all the old mail was deleted from

t comes to this: because this Forum has a double nature, both web

I see, thanks.
Where is my Email address shown ? I assumed it was hidden.
It is now working. thanks for the help. :) :)

systemctl is how it appears when typed, even when it's copied and pasted from

I seem to have made a mess of it. Nothing happened after entering password.
Is there a GUI for ModemManager ?
Hi, I assumed the two lines of code are terminal commands so have entered
them and on starting receive this message;
In the 'Add to panel' list the indicators are not listed.
Not sure how they were deleted but they can't be found in the menus. How do I

This USB mouse scroll problem only happens when bookmarks are opened and
scrolling up and or down the list but only if the list has rss added.
Abrowser is OK because it has no rss.
Pale Moon has the problem because lots of rss are on the (long) list.
I have no idea what the cause of this
Hi, how do I access this in Trisquel ? LVDS1 is the name in Hardware/Dsplays.
945GM looks like intel.
It's probably a hardware problem. tried using the usb mouse with Trisquel 8
and Xenial pup. The same scroll glitch occurs. This only happens with the
X60. The track point works normally.
Thinkpad X60 with a microsoft usb mouse,

The first backup worked thanks for the help. :)
No and I cannot find/load it using synaptic. Not sure where to look.
When Trisquel was installed to my SSD encryption wasn't chosen. Can Trisquel

It worked, excellent thanks.
I made the mistake of opening 'mate tweak' to see what it does. Now it's

Thanks but I'm useless when it comes to using the command line and writing
code.
Pointing and clicking with a graphical user interface is usually my way.
How do you start vnstat ?
posted twice by accident to change a word.
I would like a simple traffic monitor with a display showing download +
upload, daily weekly monthly figures. vnstat is installed but i don't know
how to start it. Terminal command line code is a mystery to me.

What about it ? Never had an SSD before so I'm at the ground floor.
That doesn't work for SSD's? There's no way. Then it would be like >an
infinite information well. Or do you just mean that you can't do it to
Yes the HD is SSD.
Thanks, that helps. I need to be careful not to delete emails from the
server.
With win 7 when certain items need deleting, they're put in the recycle bin
and deleted using 'privazer'. I've looked in synaptic package manager but can
find nothing similar here.
Is there a program to securely delete files with Trisquel ?
thanks.
I did it. Sort of. Pressing the delete button does nothing. The message has
to be right clicked, move to local folders, deleted. rinse and repeat.
I don't know why the delete button won't work.
Set up icedove 60.9.0 32 bit, it loaded all the mail from server ok but won't
let me delete any emails. Over 700 need deleting.
This is a first. How does delete work in icedove ?
Thanks for the help.
> For one condition. Before installing GNU/Linux, the "fast boot"

the harddisk would be read-only.
is this feature disabled in bios ? (thinkpad x200 intel bios)
Yes the files in c: drive, not the os.
I think it will need re-formatting and that will wipe all data, although
there is a backup. Just wondered if it was possible to install linux without
wiping data with a re-format.
I have a SSD with win 8.1 installed. Can trisquel be installed over 8.1 while
keeping all the data safe ?
In other words, can Linux be installed over windows (not dual boot), without
deleting data ?
The add on rss readers are not good enough (awesome rss doesn't seem free)
and liferea is a stand alone platform so, it's over to palemoon again (not
free I know). The rest of trisquel is good.
I've been using rss feeds in browsers for about 11 years. Abrowser like
Firefox has no built in feed reader and Liferea feed reader is a stand alone
thing. Having tried the add on feed readers before and disliking them, whats
a boy to do ?
Is there any way to integrate liferea into Abrowser
Recently I put the full trisquel 32bit on a Thinkpad X60/60GB SSD. The boot
is quick but the shutdown is less than 2 seconds !! My Win 7 pro X200
shutdown is about 12 seconds (much longer on battery power). Also running
Abrowser instead of Palemoon and so far it's good.
Go trisquel.
There is not much room left on the 8gb usb stick even though nothing has been
downloaded, exept palemoon browser. I don't understand linux file
structures. Have tried to delete all the libre office software but can't seem
to do it.
Other updates are waiting listed as 'security updates'
Thanks for the replies. After a few failed attempts at running trisquel from
usb, it's now working again on 8gb usb 32bit fat32 (x60). the live version
with persistence.
Trisquel is being run as a possible windows replacement when win7 stops
getting security updates in jan 20. Win 8.1 is
First post. New user. I had Trisquel 32bit running on an 8Gb USB FAT32 with a
thinkpad x60 (no HDD), USB boot.
Then decided to reformat to EXT4 and reinstall Trisquel. Something went wrong
and now nothing works.
Whats the best way to install the OS to run from USB ?
Thanks.
