Surprisingly, the cupswrapper one (but not the lpr one) looks like free software. But the manufacturer's drivers are usually crap. You might want to try https://github.com/pdewacht/brlaser.

Hello Is there an open source driver for the Brother DCP-7055 printer/scanner? There are different drivers at their website but I don't know if they are open althougt they provide a source code. http://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=eu_otlang=enprod=dcp7055_allos=128 I hope
