they had a crowd-funding campaign, and , from what i can tell, they have not
shipped from that yet.
but it was a success, so soon we may well see the nitrokey storage arrive.
I think (?) luke from rhombus-tech project (eoma-68 laptop,etc) said
something about a possibility of a standard sata SSD using a20 for the
controller and its sata for the connection to the host computer as with
any normal sata ssd. this way you could have libre firmware :).
in fact, it was there where I found info about the OpenSSD project.
I have no idea which devices this is compatible with. It could be dodgy...
I wonder if exploiting the firmware in some USB device could be used to
create a so-called "Bad USB" attack, without the victim knowing their USB
drive has been turned into a zombie. Stranger things have happened...
Leah from Minifree directed me to this page about firmware on HDDs/SSDs. Some
great info there:

What about OpenSSD? It´s free firmware for SSD

This was one of the articles that made me wonder about the firmware on
storage devices:
Kaspersky: the NSA has backdoors in Seagate and WD HDD firmware:

I assume this could also apply to external
You would have to convince them to sell you one/ look at their nitrokey
storage app to know if you are really right about trusting it...
that being said, I think it could be really useful... :)
I believe only the 'nitrokey storage' has mass storage the otehr versions are
for storing encryptions keys/passwords/passphrases etc. And it seems the
storage version is not yet available. I've been keeping an eye out for when
it becomes available myself.
^ The Nitrokey looks interesting.
What I would like to see is a (internal) solid state drive running free
software. Preferably, such a device would run only very simple software to
make auditing much more simple and to minimise the quantity of bugs in the
software. The device would need to
yes
use nitrokey

Is there anything like a Libre external storage device? I am running a T400
with Libreboot. I started wondering about potential issues with USB memory
sticks and external USB hard drives or SSD drives. Is there anything I should
be concerned about if I would like to use any of these storage
