CRT's now have very little lifespan remaining, besides they are not an option for a laptop regarding resolution even "fullHD" feels too much for me (pixel is too small even on 17" laptop) 1280x720 seems like a good compromise for a laptop, also it is exactly half of 2560x1440 and exactly 1/3

how to get xrandr (or maybe some other tool?) to use "nearest neighbour" approximation algorithm (or otherwise disable blurring) when (for example) 3840x2160 ("4K") screen is switched to 1920x1080 resolution? this reddit thread seems to describe a patch that allows to achieve it:
