"The office"
Perfect for the corporate CDE environment.
Install Mtpaint,
think of an object, a famous artwork, or something else entirely,
then try and draw it on a 16x16 or 32x32 tile.
Just make sure it tiles well. Patterns of shapes are good and things that
make it look like something is going into the distance.
hehe :)
LOL funniest thing I've heard today. Thanks. sharpened lego bricks...lol
Nice one. I wonder if it's hard to do.
I suppose it depends on the pattern complexity.
I'd try by creating a small pattern, than cropping the image at random. in
theory it should work.
A tile that I found here.

A reed mat backdrop from Geworks.
That looks pretty decent. Thanks for pointing me to MtPaint. I works nicely
and has a minimalistic footprint which I prefer.
You are a very bad kitty.
>I like the 8 bit spirit, but it is sometimes too monotonous.
I beg to differ
I like the 8 bit spirit, but it is sometimes too monotonous.
I wanted to continue the experimentation with the jpg errors.
Put some colour in your life ! Enjoy.
I have made it more suitable for a tile by making the image twice the size,
then copying and pasting the image, and then rotating and flipping each part
so that it reflects on the x and y axes.
I do all the editing in MtPaint because it easiest to make simple pixel art
in for me.
The first noise image reminds me of this.
Another patterns coming for jpeg reading errors that might inspire you.
I had this capture I've made from a error of video playing in VLC.
It maybe should be modified but this is intresting as a pattern.
This is from Taj Mahal, a window grille.
I've created an abomination. It is like a nightmare I had: I was shrunk to
the size of a mouse and lots of screaming children were after me with
sharpened Lego bricks of different colours.
Here's a screenshot.
And one more (Sun) tile for the road.
That's the Microsoft Windows HE (Hypnotic Edition) Logo... :-p
I made this tile but it makes me feel sick. The dots in the middle of the
squares feel like they are constantly shooting small darts at my eye.
This is aMAZEing!
Love it!
Looks like something that should be on a Novell workstation or something.
That's what a computer desktop background was supposed to look like in the
days of yore. Thanks.
That's what a computer desktop background of days of yore was supposed to
look like looked like. Nice work, thanks.
Here is one I have made. It is a picture of some isometric cubes.
How's about a maze?
To be honest, I think I prefer the weird patterns to these corporate logos.
They feel a bit uninspired, the exception being the dolphin for MySQL (which
is merely cute).
Solaris wavy line backdrop. This is from a Wikimedia Commons screenshot.
Diamond shaped Sun logo from Web Archives.
You're right. Dolphins or porpoises they are.
https://blogs.oracle.com/chandan/entry/some_one_asked_me_how
"Changing a backdrop isn't that intuitive, right click menu does not have a
"Change Background.." option, so most users are stuck with dancing dolphins
or some low color background on
I think they are dolphins. Their tails are like cetaceans not fish.
Xerox Globalview for X. A crisp backdrop tile.

Thanks for sharing!!
Who knows when 19th century tapestry or wallpapers are all the rage again.
Yes, this is why I asking. Today, we are not so limited with today hardware
like 15-20 years ago.
I untestood, that all you want is nostalgie over saming some Mb of memory.
Here's a screenshot of a 32x32 backdrop, transparent. Looks even better than
the 48x48.
I converted that to XBM (X BitMap) and reduced resolution to 48x48. It looks
marvellous through a green background.
That is awesome! I Love it!
Here's one.
pls post screenshot w/ CDE.
I am going to install it tonight. Thanks for pointing me there.
Wow, it's great. Thanks.
I think you could call it OStalgie.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostalgie
Rather in the sense of harking back to first experiences with computers and
GUIs.
Why not to use a normal wallpaper? why to use a retro wallpaper and GUI?
I made a GNU tiling wallpaper.
It was actually quite hard to get it 'just right'.
I hope you all like it.
Openindiana/illumos?

Here's a Solaris backdrop or two.
Love these, I probably will still able to read my Conky without any trouble
(transparent background on the Conky).
Feels like retro gaming, really nice pixel art stuff.
Oooh, this is really nice!
A blue tile from the Xerox Rooms.
Here's a red tile from Xerox Rooms for X Windows.

X Windows for Free Siftware Groups.
And here's another treat:
What they look like:
Example, trisquel_wave.png
Here is my current setup and backdrop:
Wow, looks great in CDE!
Grimlok's revenge.
You can create a few similar patterns using LibreOffice productivity suite.
Got a new goody for you all:
What is image wrapping?
grimlok
Nice and retro, grimlok. +1 =w=
Here is the final product! Enjoy!
Here's a screenshot of the finished product on my desktop...
Thanks for bringing this up!
I think I've finally found some great wallpapers. ^_^
very good +1
Bravo...! nice work "" \°v°/"" +
A little more progres...
Some of these patterns are good for using as wallpaper
http://subtlepatterns.com/
Yeah, I am trying to fill in the blanks on it to see if I can finish it from
what I have. Thanks for your suggestion!
grimlok
Here is a transparent one so that you can use the desktop gradient, or any
solid color for background color of the graphic!
Does GIMP have a nifty image wrapping tool like Photoshop does?
Familiar with these? (the story too is pretty amusing)

Grimlock Thanks! For making me discover FVWM
http://www.fvwm.org/
Hi grimlok, try this website ->
http://www.designfreebies.org/free-vectors/500-free-funky-retro-backgrounds-and-patterns/
If you like the pattern you posted in particular, I think it can be done with
GIMP, it may be more difficult than it seems though.
Not even if you stitch it together from different areas of the screenshot
that have different areas of the pattern uncovered?
Very Nice indeed! Now we have something really quite
original.
Thanks for sharing grimlok +100A1
Yes. It's called Make Seamless.
It's in Filters --> Map --> Make Seamless.
Um, copy it out of the screenshot? There seems to be enough in order to
re-create it.
This is what I have so far. I may have to make it up from there.
I tried, there isn't.
Thanks though!
Wow,
That's really cool! I put them all in my wallpaper folder :-D. Talk about
retro.
grimlok
associated quake 2 with this one.. X_x +1
So talented! +324325464224642624
hahahaha
as retro as it gets!
Thanks for all the positive feedback! If you like retro backgrounds here are
