let's get real, he probably has read it. he's clearly not stupid
just likes non-free license!

seriously?
According to Build engine's author[0] this is why he created his own license
instead of using the GPL.
> Short answer: to satisfy my ego :) Long answer: I know GPL is an industry
standard, but I felt that it was way too long and boring for anyone to read
seriously. I chose to write a nice
Yeah, it's a shame. Profit before everything.
Valve stopped making games (making a game waste the money), they prefer make
money selling games of other companies, because they making more profit doing
nothing.
* by "source engine" I mean the Valve's Source engine for I am a huge hl fan,
best game :)

that their name is always attached to their work
That's not what copyright does, and it's not its purpose. Copyright's only
function is to prohibit people from making copies of works, and its only
purpose is to
I think we should have copyright but not in such a way that impedes the free
flow of information and culture. For instance I think there should always be
a way for people to make sure that their name is always attached to their
work, especially for arts and literature. If that were the case
Probably lab rats want to make a remake of a 20 years old game, or just keeps
selling it as is, on new/old consoles or Steam. Look at Doom I and II, still
selling, Doom3 too, + remakes of them, much very old games still selling.
The bad is that people paying for DRM, handscuffs, they give
Let us just say I agree, digital restrictions are my biggest gripe though,
though even proprietary software without those restrictions should have a
very short life given that they become obsolete in less than 5-10 years.
But moreover copyright is becoming like Donald trump. You may think
yep... As I always say though, Digital Restrictions Management is the biggest
menace of proprietary software.
still software licenses lasting 70 years? what idiot was on crack when they
thought that up...
Someone was snoring at the wheel to do something that insane and moronic.
Because they are proprietary lab rats.
Scripts are a problem, but not the only problem. The entire Build engine is
proprietary, as I mentioned, and would need to be replaced. Frankly, I don't
think it's worth the effort.
Copyright, if we even have it (I don't think we should), should not last 20
years at all. There's no need for a "forced free software license".
JFSW uses the Build engine. The Build engine is proprietary. This is no
different from e.g. a game made with Unity3D.
I'm getting a sense of deja vu here.
I take it a step further, after 20 years any restrictions or digital
restrictions as they are called should be completely lifted after 20 years.
and it should be forced into some free software license. even if it is as
small as the mit/x11 license.
Oh, I didn't know how important in-engine scripting was to the FOSS
community. Had I known that I wouldn't have said anything about Quake. What
about a re-implementation of the asset scripts?
How can one still not release an engine that is over 20 years old is beyond
my understanding, I mean I get the concept of greed, but still..
I want the source engine freed :(
I thought JFSW was GPL
I think this might not be the place
What GPL engine? Last time I checked, the Build engine is under a custom
license that prohibits non-commercial use and even distribution in any manner
other than "the INTERNET".
