[Trisquel-users] Antwort: Libreboot T400 Review!
last thing, the mess you did accusing FSF GNU created a mess in my city, at least among people that were mildly interested about free software, I was in a position that suddenly looked bad, the lug where right not the fsug. I will never buy something from you again Leah.
[Trisquel-users] Antwort: Libreboot T400 Review!
forgot... I even sent a totally drunk email to I believe Sullivan where I tried to explain, while hammered, why company like minifree are bad for our free software/hardware movement. I mean english is not my main language.
[Trisquel-users] Antwort: Libreboot T400 Review!
I also own a Minifree laptop. I totally regret buying it. I mean Libreboot and Trisquel are super awesome! At the time Minifree with Francis was actually endorsed by the FSF, and that to me was enough. I know we are early adapter on the free hardware endorsement, not complaining for alpha testing the FSF free hardware endorsement. I decided for a libre laptop from Minifree and I was ok with only paying with bank because NEO900 had problem too, blah blah blah... Did I regret paying by bank transfer? Yes I did. Francis kept telling me that he would ship my laptopt next day, after a while he actually admitted that telling the customer that the laptot was going to ship next day helped with complains Oo... C'mon. I thought that it was a scam. Terrible months waiting for a pc that I really needed to work, with no money to buy another pc for working with an [at the time] endorsed vendor from fsf. I started hating the fsf, but was because I did not realized that I was alpha testing the endorsement project. I have met Technoetic in Berlin, really those are the real deal, A grade product. They actually reply to emails, they are now endorsed by the FSF. Please consider all the alternatives before buying from Leah. From my experience http://tehnoetic.com/ is the shop for freedom seeker. I personally believe that Leah has now apologized only because she realized that FSF and GNU are what help feeding her. You shipped me a broken laptop Francis! And Told me to get a new keyboard, something I can manage to change, but then I noticed that even the fan of the CPU is broken... c'mon you shipped me crap and now act like you care? Anyway I do think that endorsing the GlugGlug or Minifree products is a mistake. BTW. I would love to see the evidences of what you said the FSF did to your friend Leah. Disgusting. You offered me to replace the fan for me, but I waited 3 months after the payment to get my laptop, I will never trust you to fix my laptop, I choose to lose your warrenty and do it myself. Worst web experience ever, at least for me.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Lost admin password on my libiquity taurinus x2000 with trisquel
I'm just not sure where to start since it was already flashed with libreboot I'm not sure which installation instructions to follow on libreboot website. Yes I'm supernoob,
Re: [Trisquel-users] PROBLEM: Tor, Firefox, and linux-libre 4.12?
Yes :) new kernels are the best :D
Re: [Trisquel-users] Lost admin password on my libiquity taurinus x2000 with trisquel
Super confused, is libreboot still on my system somewhere or do I need to download it and install. How do I see what bios is running after new installation of trisquel
Re: [Trisquel-users] Lost admin password on my libiquity taurinus x2000 with trisquel
So nothing I tried was working from my guest account in trisquel so I made a live USB on a windows computer and reinstalled trisquel on my x200 now I am in control of my computer but lost libreboot when I reinstalled trisquel. So I guess I need to reconfigure libreboot now and should be good?
Re: [Trisquel-users] PROBLEM: Tor, Firefox, and linux-libre 4.12?
"So.. you removed a kernel that has been optimized to work as smooth and trouble-free with your distro and that is by default 100% libre to install a libre kernel? To each his own, I guess." One of the reasons that my APT repo exists is for people to be able to easily install a newer version of a libre kernel if they should need it for some reason. (The OP mentioned version 4.12.)
Re: [Trisquel-users] GNOME panel editing
Thank you very much, the panel reset.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Lost admin password on my libiquity taurinus x2000 with trisquel
Tried this, says unable to change root gid: operation not permitted Is this because I'm signed in as guest?
[Trisquel-users] Re : Trisquel has replaced the Ubuntu name since software update
Again: you had better backup your files and do a clean install of Trisquel 7; without adding any proprietary software. And I see no reason why you would not be able to remove your signature. Unless you are paid to do advertisement for proprietary software here, in which case you are not welcome.
[Trisquel-users] Re : trisquel 6
Hardware supports depends on the kernel. Thanks to jxself, it is easy to install a newer version of Linux-libre on any GNU/Linux distribution that uses APT (including all versions of Trisquel): https://jxself.org/linux-libre/ And, yes, you will get updates.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Need Serious Menu and Panel Help
If you are using Trisquel 7 and haven't gone out of your way to install a new desktop environment you are almost certainly using GNOME. See Magic Banana's comment. It sounds like you have figured out how to manage the bottom panel. As for the launch menu, does the editor look like the attached screenshot? If so, you should be able to select an application group (internet, office, etc.) and check/uncheck the applications you do/don't want to appear in the launch menu. The launch menu should be updated even before you close the editor, so try that and see if that works. If that doesn't work, go to "Add/Remove Applications," install Menu Editor, and try using that instead.
Re: [Trisquel-users] No swap activated on Macbook (2,1)?
Thanks, I'll take a look at that. Would be great to get a Trisquel skin and sticker for it :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel has replaced the Ubuntu name since software update
>you can use any text editor (here GEdit) You're right, it's been such a long time since I used Ubuntu and I knew nano is installed for sure. But using GEdit is a better suggestion in this case.
Re: [Trisquel-users] No swap activated on Macbook (2,1)?
I need to update it as well with information about how to put on Trisquel stickers, not just the non-Trisquel stickers it mentions.
Re: [Trisquel-users] PROBLEM: Tor, Firefox, and linux-libre 4.12?
Well, this actually worked.
Re: [Trisquel-users] No swap activated on Macbook (2,1)?
Ok, I updated the Macbook wiki page with what I found out about the trackpad, thermal issues and swap space. I also mentioned about the Trisquel ISO images possibly having problems booting with Apple firmware. Please take a look and let me know if you have any comments or edits :)
[Trisquel-users] Re : Trisquel has replaced the Ubuntu name since software update
It is /etc/apt/sources.list and you can use any text editor (here GEdit): $ gksu gedit /etc/apt/sources.list Or you can use the "Software & Updates" utility in the "System Settings". But you had better backup your files and do a clean install of Trisquel 7. Without adding any proprietary software. And please stop doing advertisement (your signature) for both proprietary JavaScript and SaaS. It is against our community guidelines: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/trisquel-community-guidelines
[Trisquel-users] Re : Lost admin password on my libiquity taurinus x2000 with trisquel
You can create a live CD/DVD/USB (with GNU/Linux on it, whatever the distribution) from another system (even from Windows or MacOS) too.
Re: [Trisquel-users] deb packages (software sources) for old versions of Trisquel?
glad it helped ) sadly I seem to be unable to edit my previous post to point out that this mirror does not contain packages for trisquel 3.5 (contrary to what I wrote there)
[Trisquel-users] Re : Need Serious Menu and Panel Help
GNOME Fallback is Trisquel 7's (not Trisquel Mini's) default desktop environment. It is called "Trisquel's session" at the graphical login screen (where you can choose to start another environment, once installed of course). Trisquel 8's default will be MATE.
[Trisquel-users] Need libreboot/coreboot advice
Hi, unfortunately my whole computer equipment got electrocuted in a thunderstorm. My beloved librebooted T400 was among the victims. It wasn't even connected to the power supply but to a LAN cable. Everything connected to the LAN has been librecuted (router, firewall and laptop) and now I am truly freed. Just kidding. I miss my T400 which I flashed myself. It was a great laptop. To cut a long story short, I need a new laptop. Of course I was looking for a T400/500 at first, but then I recalled the X230 being under investigation for libreboot. What about the x220 or the t430? So I am asking myself, should I buy a used one in the coming months or flash it with coreboot first and later with libreboot? My budget is very limited and I am hoping insurance will pay but that might probably not be the case. What would you do? @Leah In case you're reading this. Do you think you will be successful in getting the ME disabled? Thanks for your input!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Need Serious Menu and Panel Help
Thank you for your help. First how do I tell if I am using gnome? When I go to Main Menu and change settings they do not seem to have any effect on the launch menu. This is what has been driving me batty. When I right click on panel I can add to panel as you describe, but how do I delete from the panel? Oh okay I discovered just now that if I Alt-right-click I get the option to remove. Thank you in advance for your help!
Re: [Trisquel-users] GNOME panel editing
To reset it: dconf reset -f /org/gnome/gnome-panel/ killall gnome-panel Now try again :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] PROBLEM: Tor, Firefox, and linux-libre 4.12?
So.. you removed a kernel that has been optimized to work as smooth and trouble-free with your distro and that is by default 100% libre to install a libre kernel? To each his own, I guess. The first and the most important apparently warning the Tor devs keep repeating to the users of Tor is, and I quote: To avoid problems with Tor configuration, we strongly recommend you use the Tor Browser. It is pre-configured to protect your privacy and anonymity on the web as long as you're browsing with Tor Browser itself. Almost any other web browser configuration is likely to be unsafe to use with Tor. I shall add the TorBB also takes care of fingerprinting, which is apparently something you should take quite seriously. Debian does NOT ship apparmor by default. In fact to have it not only you need to install the package but also manually add a liner in grub to set it. That being said, I see no indication whatsoever that apparmor is the problem. >Hi, the problem is apparmor blocking tor, that's caused by missing profile (check logs with 'dmesg'), to fix it install apparmor That makes no sense at all (unless the advanced senility is playing me bad cards agin'..). How could something that is NOT installed and NOT running be the cause of any problem. And why would the installation of something that is blocking something fix it? x_X OP: your issue is likely: you fucked up the configuration of your 'custom TorBB' at some point, which is exactly why you should listen to the Tor devs. cheers
Re: [Trisquel-users] Lost admin password on my libiquity taurinus x2000 with trisquel
You don't need GUI for this. Actually GUIs in my experience are terrible with it. Insert the fat32 formatted USB stick in your laptop and open the terminal and follow this: lsblk look up and not the name assigned to your usb stick. sba is usally your hard drive, it will be either sdb or sdc. For the arguments, or better yet, example's sake, say your stick is sdb. For the same reason say your Trisquel ISO is in ~/Downloads/ To write the ISO on your stick all you need is one single command, one that has never ever failed me on any hardware and with any ISO: sudo dd if=~/Downloads/Trisquel_ISO.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M ; sync
Re: [Trisquel-users] deb packages (software sources) for old versions of Trisquel?
I think it is related to my general interest into retro computing (8-bit, Amiga, MS-DOS PC-gaming). And since I have complete Ubuntu i386 repositories from 4.10 until 16.04 I also would like to have a complete set of Trisquel. Thanks for pointing to that mirror. And while it seems not to have updates for 3.5 but...yay! It has a COMPLETE 2.0 Robur repo, not only base repository but updates as well! :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] No swap activated on Macbook (2,1)?
Thanks! You can add the tip about the swap ;)

Its too bad this isn't a Snap either as Ubuntu 14.04/Trisquel 7 supports it via snapd.
[Trisquel-users] Re : help needed to hardware flash Gigabyte GA-G41M-ESL2
Fair enough. Do you mean the part you quoted ? "You can only externally reprogram one of the chips at a time, and you need to disable the chip that you’re not flashing, by connecting 3v3 to /CS of that chip, so you will actually need 2 test clips (you also need to connect GND on the chip that you’re disabling)." I only used one test clip personally. I flashed chip one by one. And verified each flash twice with shasum comparison. Everything went well. The board was "naked" when I flashed it. No CPU, no RAM, no CMOS. https://framapic.org/bz73e0CuCImC/8kyS8dvOtQAb.jpg (Chip pinout with Beaglebone) Now I remember I had to connect 3v to both NC pins (3 & 7) as well to flash it. I used a 3v rail from the Beaglebone to do this. (Make sure it is providing 3v with a multimeter) From what I remember, it is not recommended to do that when the chip is still soldered.. But I had no issues.. First try to read the "main" chip twice with flashrom without 3v connected to pin 3&7 and verify with sha256sum. You might not need to connect 3v.
[Trisquel-users] GNOME panel editing
Hi! I am having difficulties trying to set up desktop panels as I want. Somehow I changed original layout and now I can not set up the panels the way they originally were as everything I add on a panel gets aligned to the left, i.e. I can not add "indicator applet complete" to the right side of the bottom panel. It is not possible to drag-and-drop panel items or separators. Maybe I am missing something?

I completely agree, this issue should be reported to the bug tracker.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel has replaced the Ubuntu name since software update
First of all, oof, that's a lot of non-free software repositories. Second, you added the Free Software Foundation's mirror of the Trisquel toutatis repositories to your /etc/apt/sources.list file. So, like Soon.to.be.Free said, your computer will try to replace packages with a package from the Trisquel toutatis repositories. This will probably also create a lot of conflicts since Trisquel toutatis is the equivalent of Ubuntu 12.04. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think opening up a terminal and typing sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list then your password, then removing the entry "http://mirror.fsf.org/trisquel toutatis-updates" and after that typing sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade in the terminal window would solve your problems. Be careful when adding repositories in the future, as you can see this can really mess up your system. One more thing, I highly recommend getting rid of the Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi, Windscribe, Bitmask and Skype repositories, these are all non-free and most of them are probably spyware, too.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel has replaced the Ubuntu name since software update
If you were running Ubuntu 16.04 and added the Trisquel repositories, this is entirely expected. As an unofficial version of Ubuntu, with an explicit goal to avoid endorsing the differing values of that project, Trisquel is both legally and morally required to remove references to the OS from *all packages*- which means that, when you 'update'- replace packages with their most current Trisquel equivalents- every reference to Ubuntu is replaced. Of course, I'm presuming that's what happened in the first place. If I've misinterpreted, please do say.
