Patch the software so it doesn't do the offensive thing. Don't just
rip it out. That's what free software is all about. This is why I
hate Trisquel.
Yeah, you download the .deb, copy the file to the machine, and do sudo dpkg
-i /path/to/file
JMP requires a version of Gajim that is at least 0.0.1 versions ahead
of the one in Trisquel 8. The version in Trisquel 8 prevents me from
sending images to my contacts over MMS.
I tried adding Gajim's PPA and it gave me dependency issues.
cal@user-ThinkPad-X200:~$ apt search gajim
Never mind. He says WiFi is working now, from a new location. Maybe it was a
problem with the access points he was trying. Sorry for the noise.
When I have a chance to look at his computer I'll look into whether or not the
working WiFi is a freedom issue.

Trisquel does have issues, but that one I doubt is it.

That sounds absurd.

In general I agree that this is preferable, but this takes time. Ruben only has
so much, and it's probably better spent on other things than snap and
gnome-software.
It looks like most of the software

I often ran into that with the Trisquel 7 graphical installer. The
Well, man, there is no need for such kind of irony. There is nothing
impossible in that someone will make fixes for you, don't get upset. As for
now, it's better to sacrifice the use of that package, and it will surely
lead to something better!

libsnapd-glib1 was removed due to a freedom issue[1] whereby snap was
recommending non-free software. gnome-software had also been recommending
non-free software[2]

So is the act of deleting. :)
It's easy to sit on the sidelines and say that someone should do more than
they did.
librepup is outdated I thought though...
I can't get GNOME Software installed.

"how do you discern a 32-bit from a 64-bit model?"
I don't know if you mean physically or what. In software you can run "lscpu"
and pay attention to "CPU op-mode(s)"
CPU op-mode(s):32-bit, 64-bit
It mentions both because 64-bit x86 CPUs can also run 32-bit code.

Thank you, I had heard about the x60 was software flashable along with the

If you already have access to the machine then jxself's answer works. If you
want to know in advance of purchasing one I think you'd have to just ask the
vendor.

I agree, but he can't recall any changes, and he's out of town and can only

Thanks. It seems that the conclusion in that thread was that the WiFi card
should not have worked in Trisquel. Maybe jxself's suggestion of trying 4.16
Hello people,
I have been trying to install Trisquel on an old HP Pavilion ze4600, as yet
without success. I want to subject a possibly infected usb pendrive to a scan
by ClamAV or some other anti-virus/malware program, and I prefer to do that
on this old less-critical computer rather than
