Re: [Trisquel-users] Linux-libre repo failing to fetch during apt update
OK, having had a more careful looks at the information here: https://jxself.org/linux-libre/ ... I realize that fsfla.org is not down, it's successfully redirecting my package manager to a mirror that *is* down. I also realized that the mistake I made was to leave "mirror://" before the URL of the mirror I was trying to switch to. I replaced the URI beginning with "mirror://" with the full URL of the mirror and it ran apt update successfully and downloaded a new kernel image when I ran apt upgrade. Thanks again MagicBanana for pointing me in the right direction.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Linux-libre repo failing to fetch during apt update
I have tried opening 'Software and Updates' and changing the URL to a couple of URLs listed here: https://linux-libre.fsfla.org/pub/linux-libre/freesh/mirrors.txt In both cases I got an error message: > E: The repository 'mirror://ftp.linux.org.tr/linux-libre/freesh freesh Release' does not have a Release file. > N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default. I'm assuming this is probably because I'm not following the correct procedure for changing mirrors. Is this documented anywhere?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Linux-libre repo failing to fetch during apt update
Thanks MagicBanana. I will try changing mirrors, as you suggest. But the fact that both the gnulinux.si and fsfla.org mirrors are down, yet both still on the mirrors list, suggests there may a deeper problem here. I'm a bit concerned that jxself hasn't responded on that thread at all. Has anyone heard from him recently?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems after upgrade
Substance2004: > http://ppa.launchpad.net/jre-phoenix/ppa/ubuntu xenial InRelease is for Peerguardian. Do you mean this? https://sourceforge.net/projects/peerguardian/ The newest release files there are from 2016, and according to that page, it's not being developed anymore for GNU/Linux or MacOS, and the Windows version has been forked as PeerBlock.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Donating to Trisquel via Liberapay or Open Collective
jorgesumle: > Maybe it's because Liberapay requires non-free software to process donations. I agree this is an issue. For now, it's is a reason not to make Liberapay the *only* way to donate to Trisquel. But it doesn't seem like a good reason to refuse to accept donations through Liberapay at all. From the comments in that GH issue, it seems to be a result of their rapid, unplanned transition to Stripe, after Mangopay suddenly refused to keep working with them 2 years ago: https://medium.com/liberapay-blog/liberapay-is-in-trouble-b58b40714d82 Perhaps someone in our community can help them figure out how to replace all nonfree JS from their service? I'm sure they're keen to that if possible. One way to help website operators avoid this situation could be a page on FSF.org or GNU.org evaluating payment processing options for websites, and which ones can be used without compromising the software freedom of site users. Something along the lines of this page for webmail providers: https://www.fsf.org/resources/webmail-systems

[Trisquel-users] Linux-libre repo failing to fetch during apt update
For the last 3 days or so, I've been getting this error message every time I run an apt update and upgrade: > W: Failed to fetch mirror://linux-libre.fsfla.org/pub/linux-libre/freesh/mirrors.txt/dists/freesh/InRelease Temporary failure resolving 'linux-libre.gnulinux.si' [Mirror: http://linux-libre.gnulinux.si/freesh/] Obviously, I'm using kernels from jxself's Linux-Libre repo, instead of the standard Trisquel kernels. All the other software sources are queried successfully and updates are being installed from them. Any idea why this is happening, or what I can do to fix it?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 9 Graphical ISO available for testing
The above trouble might have been solved. Upgrade seems to be done. Those programs work now. Mullvad also seems to work. But it seems that all internet traffic is cut except of Tor Browser. Apt update, Abrowser, Icedove, Jami, etc do not get internet connection, neither with proxy nor direct (VPN). The internet speed is strangely fast.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Problems after upgrade
For those who prefer graphical interfaces, Synaptic can be used as well: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/cloning-system-or-how-make-copy-installed-packages-one-computer-another
Re: [Trisquel-users] remastering trisquel 8 iso (having a problem with it)
I see weird characters. Which coding do you use?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Import public key
Hi, I downloaded the add on as suggested and now Enigmail in again into Icedove. It works if I send an email to myself using my key, but if I send an email to another user with his own public key I get the message " encryption command error failed " and the email is not sent. I deleted and reimported the public key , I trusted it as "full" but I get always that error message. Any suggestion on this ? Thank you
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problems after upgrade
Thank you Magic It worked well. For this sound problem, I didn't know what exaclty happen, but it seems some packages have been uninstalled when I upgraded. I thought to make before a back up of my favourite softwares with deselect. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dselect A very usefull software ! Also recommanded for cloning a system. So, from the generated text file by Dselect before the problem, I could restore the uninstalled packages and it was solved. Greetings from France and hope everything's alright for you and your family and friends.
Re: [Trisquel-users] remastering trisquel 8 iso (having a problem with it)
UPDATE: unpacked both original *.iso image and "remastered" and compared: almost all files are different. for example \isolinux\isolinux.cfg file unpacked from original *.iso contains following text: # D-I config version 2.0 include menu.cfg default vesamenu.c32 prompt 0 timeout 300 ui gfxboot bootlogo same file from "remastered" *.iso contans this: УuГnU†RЌjqяPЭ,ДђЋэ`aЁэЎ¦ЬФн‡ЉТ…»±Q@zЭх›3u#џШ HЇIЬ4ЉFjє?»рyыБ lЁIt±АЊщрЈ›Е©Жvј-ЗЎшзd$ь»П replaced all files (except contents of \casper\ folder) on my bootable USB flash drive with same files from original *.iso and tried to boot from this frankenstein: got trisquel's boot menu but after selecting "try without installing" it wrote this: Invalid or corrupt kernel image. boot: apparently squashfs is mangled too \isolinux\isolinux.cfg file in src folder created during remastering process (as described in https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/customizing-trisquel-iso) contains same text as original one so it should have been mangled during (re)packing stage can somebody please point me to build script or instructions for how to build *.iso of trisquel 8 (or trisquel 9) from source code?
