What's the big deal?
It is even simpler than what you wrote:
patent-encumbered formats, such as MP3, are played (by Totem or Exaile
through GStreamer) out of the box (no need to install anything);
installing the gnome-session package is enough to enjoy GNOME Shell (the
gnome-shell package comes as a dependency).
I was unaware that a new version with improved graphics was coming. It works
alright, but I did what I could to lower the memory footprint of Trisquel.

I usually check the Trisquel User forum[1] via the mailing list, but I
found out that a new forum named The Troll Hole[2] exists... and that
I get notifications from that forum even if I am not subscribed.
So, what about that?

I've just read the news and though I'd share it with the Trisquel community.
An Italian artist and hacker discovered that I had a brain tumor, but his
medical record was encoded in proprietary format. He cracked and shared it in
an effort to find a cure.

What was the original format? The examples he gave and his results were both
images he took of the result. Are the final records in XML? OpenDocument?
Well hopefully this will push people away from proprietary software. Some of
the ideas coming out of companies like Apple and Microsoft are very
dangerous. UDIDs, DRM, and restricted boot to name a few others.
