Ubuntu is full of binary blobs so the hardware might not work with free GNU/Linux distros. Apparently Dell is among vendors who implement a wifi whitelist so if the wifi card doesn't work (a common problem) it might be nigh impossible to fix it.

Did you try to keep typing, then press Enter? I've experienced a bug where Nautilus would stop showing your changes occasionally, but it was actually still reading the keyboard and pressing Enter caused the file to be renamed appropriately.

had this bug on my old systems. had to kill nautilus command for ref: $ killall -9 nautilus so note that the folders you have open will be closed, you'll just have to reopen them. I think it might be fixed in the latest nautilus? what trisquel version are you on?

This probably warrants for a bug report. I tested it out and to me it seems that the server tries to execute the file due to it's name, when you click it. This happens despite any chain in permissions on the uploaded file.

GNOME Flashback still uses Nautilus, in fact the only difference is that it uses GNOME Panel instead of GNOME Shell, and Metacity instead of Mutter as the window manager. All other programs are the same.
