Yes, the default desktop is very customizable: the same way one can create a
compiz session with de Trisquel desktop, one can create a combination with
other window managers like Trisquel + Xmonad.
The radeon driver worked in Trisquel 6, so it supported 1366x768. The
vesa driver supports only modes specified by the VGA BIOS, usually
1024x768 is the largest. (Radeon kernel mode setting works with
pre-R600 cards only, while the X driver requires it in the version used
in Trisquel 7.)
Several things are wrong with Wikipedia, but a much bigger and worser problem
is that the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF for short) is forgetting that it is an
offspring of Wikipedia, not the other way, and that it's task (of the WMF) is
to keep Wikipedia and some other projects running, not to
Seems like I confused things after all.
You're right, the radeon driver _is_ used in Trisquel 6. I just tried
removing it in Trisquel 6. What happens then is that I get worse screen
resolution, and Details under System Settings says VESA MADISON instead
of fallback.
So my idea of
I suspect that the source package for “wc” (it should be coreutils) may
actually have modprobe instead. Maybe it was an error when it was packaged. I
haven't checked.
See
e.g.
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/trisquel-70-flash-disk-and-amd-raedonlimited-resolution
for how to make the radeon kernel module load.
To make it really work, this needs downgrading the driver to a version
with user space modesetting, fixing the current kernel driver to work
without
@ Calinou
Yes I thought so as well, but I need something that performs this function,
I'm having tons of network activity when the system should be idle, and
tcpdump shows Russian IPs and other suspicious activity that might be better
recognized by someone familiar with network security.
Thanks Marioxcc for the lengthy response. I also beleive you - or maybe
others have contributed to this discussion I proposed on IRC, and I should
acknowledge them. It does seem that it would be proprietary software, but I
want to put this in context for a second.

Thanks david. I was surprised when it recommended google chrome - apparently
because someone convinced him - but it didn't say why. I know google chrome
is not secure and should not trust the script. Icedove is better than
thunderbird like you said. It's unfortunate the state of usability of
I also like the improvements to BTRFS and XFS since I run them on my system.
I also got an Nvida GTX 970 this past Christmas and the 3.19 kernel and
latest Xorg seem to work much better than 3.13 and 3.16.
Wikipedia is inefficient, absolutely, but writing a libre encyclopedia in
this way is a lot more effective than a more traditional way, regardless of
how efficient it is or isn't. That's why Wikipedia has succeeded where other
libre encyclopedias have failed.
In any case, if you want to
Conclusion of the topic thus far:
Wow, you guys really have steroid-infused desktops! @_@
I didn't know the default DE could look *that good*!
The old Trisquel website, had a '100% FREE SOFTWARE' logo along with an 'FSF
Join now!' Banner. It seems like while renovating the website, these 'Bits of
Freedom' went missing.
These free software goodies have often served as a medium for a novice user
to get introduced to the world of

Comodo is likely to be proprietary…
Try to reinstall the coreutils package.
1366x768 is the native res . I get 1024x768. I tried to solve it. Was reading
some old post here and apparently the old vesa driver in trisqul 6 displayed
the native resolution. But that changed with the new versions, the point
release and the 7.
:)
Why? Unless your hardware needs it for something, there's no point in
upgrading the kernel.
i found this on what looks like the projects homepage:
https://github.com/Douane/Douane
The entire project is 100% open source under the GPL v2 licence.
Thing is, Popcorn Time updates itself automatically, so you don't need to use
a PPA.
That works neither because that superdrive from apple won't run without
drivers.
I can boot the disc on my old mac with an internal drive Maybe I will get
a used drive for PC.
I'd say that since there is no such thing as a 100% libre mobile device, the
entire device is corrupt from the beginning. There's no way to be certain of
what every part of the phone is doing so it is an inherent security risk.
Replicant is trying to fix this as much as possible, but even
I reinstalled coreutils package but the result is still same.
user@trisquel:~$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall coreutils

Hi.
In a hurry right now, but would like to ask for input/insight into this:
cellphones are basically non-secure non-private non-free because of the close
baseband running inside, which can access the entire device. What about
wifi-only devices? From both a freedom perspective, security
I'd love to upgrade my home network to 802.11ac, but I haven't found any
adapters that could be compatible with Trisquel and the libre kernel.
Hopefully I don't have to wait 10 years for free support. It took forever for
there to be 802.11n support via the Atheros adapters.
Wikipedia runs on MediaWiki, which is free software.
The default kernel is pretty old at this point, so you may want to try a
later kernel via http://jxself.org/linux-libre/ once you get your system up
and running.
Can the latest (jxself) linux-libre kernels be used with T6? For example I'm
running the latest generic kernel on T6, is it possible and beneficial for me
to install (jxself's) v3.19 say?
