Thank you for your useful contributions. The board I am thinking about getting is a A13 from Olimex. I am just waiting to get some more information (it turns out we have another user of such a board here in the forum!) before I buy. As for RMS... he used his computer offline and without GUI.

By the way, if you're going to use Emacs, assign the Caps Lock key to Ctrl. (This is actually a setting in GNOME, under the Tweak Tool). Apparently that reduces the likelihood of getting the so-called Emacs pinky injury.

The trisquelize script wont work as there are no ARM binaries in the repository. You will have to build each package from source.

Hello how are you? According to this [1] the t520 has got *an intel wifi(?), if so that will not work. If this Lenovo model has a whitelist for wifi cards potentially preventing you from installing a wifi card that works in freedom, you might have to use an external usb wifi adapter.

Tor hides your identity by making every user look the same. So, if you use a different browser (and there are many ways to know which browser you are using) you make yourself unique, and therefore easy to track and follow. right! People who need strong anonymity should use the Tor Browser.

That's true, but I don't think it's configured the same way as Tor Browser, so it will have a different fingerprint. Using Tor Browser is a better idea if you want anonymity.

In a pinch I use Mousepad instead (gedit is always a little strange), but my goto editor is actually Notepad++. It's a shame I have to use Wine to run it.. I've been waiting for someone with the know-how to create a GNU/Linux port but at least it's free software!
