Does anyone have experience creating a bootable Ubuntu USB from the Trisquel
OS?
Good share.
Auto Resize Image is distributed under the terms of the GNU GPL according to
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/auto-resize-image/
Do you have any reason to believe it actually raises freedom issues?
Of course we will help, I think we want to be able to control our own
technology.
You can count me on it :)
So, Atheros AR9xxx and AR5xxx in PCIe full or half size work with no blobs,
not?
Damn, that's it!! Thank You for finding out about this.
By the way, with me the file already existed and I just added the line to it.
Now strangely it looks like this, maybe because I altered settings in
enigmail:
# GPGConf disabled this option here at Tu 20 Okt 2015 14:43:58 CEST

Couldn't donate much but more than happy to help out the cause.
you can do it but its non-free software
from the community guidelines:
"Please do not distribute, recommend, or support non-free software here"
What if you tried this?

# dd if= of=/dev/ bs=4M;sync
Just to be on the safe side ;)

Both update-grub and update-grub2 are identical in function. They are both
stubs for running grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg. It doesn't matter which
you use. I run
If you are talking about binary packages (.deb) then we are in the same club
my friend.
Compile the source and enjoy.
cheers
I donated. Always happy to help the cause :)
Congratulations on making up with Francis by the way.
My pc mainboard stopped working. Likely the power supply too. It was an amd
athlon ii x2 250. What mainboard and cpu should I buy, if I want highest
level of free software and similar performance? I cannot get a mainboard
without uefi etc? Can you get mainboards that are not new but unused?
The whole reason you're using debian is for ati drivers...
Are you arguing semantics because you're feeling guilty for being a debian
user on the trisquel forums? The reason some people prefer trisquel over
debian, is because debian is not 100% libre. Its doc's aren't 100% libre,
its
You're misinformed. The kernel _is_ libre.
If you know better (i guess you don't), please give some references.
its not libre to me, if it automatically will load non free modules, or
inform you that they are "missing", implying they are needed.
I consider that a security benefit.
No, I do not. But I also take my security to the next level by not installing
anything that's not in the Trisquel repo as a matter of personal policy.
> So strictly speaking, this software violates GNU GPLv3 from the very core
No, it does not. A GPLv3 software that recommends non-free software does not
violate the license.
I'm too lazy to go and check it. What is the sync for and why?
I made a lot of different usb live distros using the command above and never
had any issue (with disparate hardware).
ciao green man!
I heard they broke up recently. That doesn't surprise me though. I
recommended Paris for their honeymoon. Instead they went to Detroit. :)
hmm possibly, tks for the reply.
I changed all my passwords just to be on the safe side. and i'm only going to
use my master password on trisquel system from now on :)
Some see that as implying you need to install it.
The difference is you can't even accidentally install non free software on
trisquel, from its repos or with kernel driver modules.
ick. Microsoft is at the heart of all evil. They've released code in the past
purely to undermine us, funded companies with legal campaigns to undermine
us, and 'partnered' with us to undermine us (they actually have done this
repeatedly to lots of companies that have had nothing to do with
UPDATE:
So it seems like there is no way out of this situtation if I am to complete
this mathematics course. Either I run Adobe Flash on the library computers or
I fail the course due to zeroes on homework...
Library computer or liveCD that lives in RAM is the path I plan to take. This
problem is more than just a matter free software, though.
:) Thanks!
We're getting close to meeting the $7k goal. Hopefully we continue inching
along. I think ultimately we're going to need to raise some serious cash to
tackle the goal. On the plus side we're not alone and the larger community I
think is behind the general goals. As long as we

From the link you provided, I understand it is licensed under GNU GPLv3.
But this software has reference for GNU/Linux distributions which ships
non-free software and binary blobs with the kernel, Linux. Some of them even
don't have
I'm sorry, kya. ;c
Sometimes, there really isn't a way around things like this.
You're education is more important.
(Maybe using a library computer for HW is an option, though...?)
well its a libre system if it is made up of only libre software as Debian
main is
but i agree it would be better if Debian did not imply that the non-free
software is needed (this is the impression i got when i first tried Debian
without knowing what free software was)
GNUser said: "anyone feel free to use my script it you need/like it :)"
I know that's a small script, but it's a good habit adding a free license to
it
https://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-recommendations.html
I replugged in everything today and turned it on and the fan turns on during
startup! :)
But it isn't on now. Is that okay? I haven't had my laptop on for long. Also
when it turns on during bios startup it doesn't blow at full blast is that
normal?
I fixed it!!!
if you want a desktop your best bet freedom(and performance) wise is a ASUS
KGPE-D16 (max of 256GB RAM!) or a ASUS KFSN4-DRE (max of 64GB of RAM)
as you can run them with a free BIOS using libreboot
what are you wanting this pc for?
as the CPU, amount of RAM etc will depend on what you need
How do I check my external hard drive for errors if the whole disk is
encrypted?
Also how to I check and fix errors for my internal drive that has whole
system encrypted swap, root, home?
LOL :)
This goes without saying, but I really hope you succeed. Donated some money
just now. :)
I believe sync just updates.. things. To me, dd feels incomplete without it. I
was first taught dd by the Debian documentation, and the 'sync' was there. It's
probably there for a reason.
- green man
Yea, Arch'es wiki has "sync," too.
I always ignore it though, and have never run into any problems.
Apparently it syncs "cached writes to persistent storage," whatever the hell
that means.
Are there any good guides on compiling kernels oneself out there? And, is
there anything to consider when doing it on a Linux-Libre kernel over a Linux
Kernel?
Thanks,
grimlok
Here's one guide
https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/compiling-gnu-linux-libre-kernel
The process is the same on GNU Linux-libre and Linux.
dd if=nameOfISO.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M
make sure your USB is indeed sdb,sdc or whatever with:
lsblk
Thanks to everyone who replied!
Well, I am not sure what happened, I tried lembas' suggestion, bash -c
/path/to/script, and it gave me an error, I went around a few tries and
eventually got it to work.
For someone going through the same: I think the problem is I hadn't made the
script

Maybe this can help.
Remove the "splash" word in that line if you see it fit.
Don't forget to sudo update-grub / sudo update-grub2 (I am not sure which one
is the right one, so I do both, lol).
