Re: [Trisquel-users] Is H264 mp4 readable on Trisquel?
Yes, if you have installed "trisquel-codecs" package, it should play well (the package depends on other packages that allow this). The packages included here are all free/libre, the issue with H.264 is another one. Although there *are* non-[free/libre] packages that also allow society to play/decode videos made with such video encoder (and this cannot be included in free/libre distributions like Trisquel), the main issue is that H.264 is patented in some countries. The GNU Free System Distribution Guidelines *does-not* impose that free/libre distributions "should" or "shouldn't" support usage of such patented formats, see: https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-system-distribution-guidelines.html Of course, we can also make occasional mistakes, and you can help spotting the mistakes if you want, see: https://trisquel.info/en/project/issues https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/how-help Make sure that the codec used to make the video is really H.264, if you have "libav-tools" package installed, do: avprobe "[Path to file]" |& grep 'Stream.*h264'
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is H264 mp4 readable on Trisquel?
It works just fine.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is H264 mp4 readable on Trisquel?
Well, I see that the license isn't libre. VLC seems to be able to play that, but not always: http://www.h264info.com/playh264.html What's your experience?
Re: [Trisquel-users] The future of Libre Computing: Crowd Funding Campaign Starts Now
I was thinking of something really short, you know, 30 seconds or something. I see your point though. Maybe for the second batch :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Possible to Transfer Icecat files to Evolution?
Alas, I keep forgetting about the Ubuntu forums...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Possible to Transfer Icecat files to Evolution?
And I meant "icedove". So many ices...
Re: [Trisquel-users] The future of Libre Computing: Crowd Funding Campaign Starts Now
hiya hack, yeah we find it takes too long to explain the whole thing in one go, we need someone to "ask questions of" if you know what i mean. we tried the "explaining" video it just didn't work, and it's because there's nobody else in the world actually doing this! but, also, i don't mind that we won't be doing 2,000 or 20,000 straight away, it would be too much: we need to go gently and make sure everybody is happy.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Zeronet -Decentralized websites using Bitcoin crypto and BitTorrent network
Thanx :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Possible to Transfer Icecat files to Evolution?
I'm a little bit in a hurry right now and I haven't read them but searx gave me some links: https://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/answers/Applications_GUI_Multimedia/Howto_migrate_from_Thunderbird_to_Evolution https://askubuntu.com/questions/519728/migrate-from-thunderbird-to-evolution-without-re-downloading-imap-mails https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/42156/is-there-an-easy-way-to-migrate-from-thunderbird-to-evolution https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=952152

yw mangy dawg :) Will add it tomorrow.
[Trisquel-users] Possible to Transfer Icecat files to Evolution?
Moved my files over to a new notebook. Icecat is having the problem of unable to send attachments, so I can't use it and will go with Evolution. Question: can I transfer my email lists and settings etc from Icecat to Evolution ( as I might with Thunderbird) Or are they different animals? Thank you. - Zem
[Trisquel-users] Is H264 mp4 readable on Trisquel?
If not, can I at least convert it without trouble (to WebM for example)?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Zeronet -Decentralized websites using Bitcoin crypto and BitTorrent network
Can you add that to https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/how-install-and-use-zeronet-trisquel-7-belenos Cheers SuperTramp ;-) molte grazie
Re: [Trisquel-users] The future of Libre Computing: Crowd Funding Campaign Starts Now
lkcl, I was just thinking about something: Why don't you try to make a short but dynamic video about the whole thing? You know, the fast happy music kind, with fun animations and bullet points. I know I sound sarcastic but seriously, it's a format that packs a punch, and it's easy to share. I have yet to read the whole thing, but to me, this is what it's about, and what's the coolest things about it: * credit card-sized computer. Super awesomely practical. * printing laptop parts (like one frame default color, another one with a brighter color, and the last one with like way too much colors with "uh..." written on the frame, just for the fun effect. * 100% libre. This one is hard to illustrate in a simple AND appealing way. Portraying the non-free constraints is probably the easiest part (with short real-life examples). * To not make the video too long or too hard to digest, I'd add all the other points in a fast-paced rythm for a few seconds. And then point to the funding page of course, and maybe a contact adress (or this forum's thread). The lack of current CPU and RAM super capacity shouldn't be hidden, but shouldn't be put forward too soon though, I suppose. Same for the connectivity. Anyway, just food for thought. A punchy video is worth a thousand words. Beats my short attention span any day.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Unable to remove programs
If that implies making an XFS partition smaller, then it is "normal": XFS cannot be shrunk. XFS is the default filesystem Trisquel's installer uses for /home.
[Trisquel-users] Re : I'm leaving Trisquel
Thank you very much! I believe it is easier for newbies to copy-paste to the terminal and execute a single command line (rather than copy to a file, make it executable and execute it). That is why I kept the single line (notice also that your 'print ""' has one supernumerary level of indentation). I actually applied the fix in a different way: 'tr -d ,' deletes all commas right after https://trisquel.info/en/donate is downloaded. If I can avoid 'gensub', I usually do so (I always have to go back to the documentation for 'gensub' and the likes)... https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/financial-information was updated accordingly. The sums now match those of Ignacio.Agullo.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trouble Performing a Restore of a Backup to New Computer
> Now...! I think I can remove the files in the existing Home directory folder, and replace them with the files of the restored Home directory folder standing by in the temp folder. Is this correct? It would seem so. If it is a new installation and you have no important data there, then yes, purge your /home/John and then move the /home/John from the temp folder into /home
Re: [Trisquel-users] Unable to remove programs
I did sudo apt-get clean before. I made a backup of my files and would like to resize but wasn't able to do it yet.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm leaving Trisquel
Thanks for the pointers Supertramp83, HKR and CentaurX00!
Re: [Trisquel-users] I am interested in making a libre debian fork short term support,
This blog post might be of interest: http://www.fotiskoutoulakis.com/2014/07/09/distro-forking-101.html t3g's recommendation sounds solid.
