Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
Hi "Hunter"/"Aranya"/"Abba12". Yes, David, please blow me to kingdom come now.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
Forgive me... now I can see the likeliness.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Public consultation on "open" internet
The page works fine here as well, using Seamonkey with scripts turned off in NoScript.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Some questions about GPU in completely free software enviroments
With you GT730 you have 3D acceleration, but you need to reclock (very easy) to get full power of your GPU. If you have one of the latest kernels (after 4.4), just run some commands: "#" means that you need to run it as superuser # cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/pstate you will see something like that, lines beginning with "0" are states, "*" is actual state, and "DC" is actual clocks. For GT430 you will have only 3 lines, 2 states (07 and maybe 0a only")(so the line before "DC" line is your highest clock) 07: core 405 MHz memory 648 MHz AC DC * 0a: core 405-1032 MHz memory 1620 MHz 0e: core 405-1202 MHz memory 6700 MHz 0f: core 405-1202 MHz memory 6700 MHz DC: core 405 MHz memory 648 MHz now just run reclocking commands before gaming (in your case you only need one reclocking command, because you have only 2 states): # echo 0a > /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/pstate after gaming, just downclock it: # echo 07 > /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/pstate and you are done.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser not playing sound because it now requires Pulseaudio
A simple solution is to either use IceCat/Iceweasel for audio playback (as the version of Firefox on which it is based still supports ALSA), or, if you prefer a browser based on newer Mozilla code (with support for WebExtensions), to use Waterfox instead. Other Mozilla browsers with ALSA support include Seamonkey/Iceape (but not all Firefox add-ons are compatible).
Re: [Trisquel-users] family privacy Again
I tried to install diaspora but the server which is a ra*berry pi (it is n ot open hardware i asked in the forums and they CAN NOT release the gpu code, and they say it does not have backdoors but who will believe that, eoma68 is too much expensive that I cannot buy locally) not being able to handle it (low ram) so I just installed humhub community edition, but disasppointed to not find any mobile apps and I saw a discussion that the offcial mobile app will not be free. I tried gnu social but I need something that almost mimics book of faces, friendica cannot be installed for some reason and no other alternatives that I can think of. Thank you for suggesting the deleting their accounts @SuperTramp but that would just spark world war, they did not remove my face in the post and I am still pissed of because of that, in the next family gathering I will refuse to take any pictures whatever be the consequences of it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Safely running non-free software when I'm "forced" to
I am forced to use non-free pirated winblows software Adob* Photoshop (portable cracked edition), Visual Basic 6 (portable cracked) and Visual Basic .NET (not much space to install) on our school I do not have a separate machine to use them, I only have a netbook computer, but I am planning to disconnect the network and use they in WINE but I doubt that they will run since they are wind*ws programs.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How does one release something under a free license,
I don't think of it as complicated. https://jxself.org/git/?p=digits.git;a=blob;f=digits.pl;h=fd23070c14a38491a4c004a9efbdcfaef8e29659;hb=HEAD You have a copyright statement and permission header.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
> > heyjoe i have been following this thread for since it started > and i registered because of you > > Yeah...of course. What? Normal people don't randomly stumble across and become engrossed in a comically difficult-to-follow thread on a forum they have no connection to and follow it for an entire month before finally making an account in order to post a single comment?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
> we are not > really meeting each other, not communing as it were. Indeed not, and whether you lack self-awareness or just pretend to, it was a mistake for me to try again. Never mind.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Abrowser not playing sound because it now requires Pulseaudio
It is in the default install.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser not playing sound because it now requires Pulseaudio
I've noticed the same thing lately. If I log in, start Abrowser, and try to play html5 audio or video I get "To play audio, you may need to install the required PulseAudio software." However, if I play something in mpv or vlc and then restart Abrowser, audio in Abrowser starts working.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser not playing sound because it now requires Pulseaudio
IIRC pulseaudio requires systemd so that solution wouldn't work so easily :/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Free Software Alternative to AWS?
Sorry, this is the link: http://101.datascience.community/2013/06/07/open-source-alternatives-to-aws/ (Damn, I'm always doing that!)
[Trisquel-users] Free Software Alternative to AWS?
Hey, I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a good free-software alternative to Amazon Web Services? I did a quick DuckDuckGo, which turned up this list here, which looks promising (it says 'open source', but most appear to be free software): http://101.datascience.community/2013/06/07/open-source-alternatives-to-aws/ Does anyone have any experience of using any of these services? Ideally, I'd like to find one that would be suitable for hosting a Java-based web server for a web-based libre game. Thanks! :-)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Tor on amnesic Trisquel live usb
What you're describing sounds more like what heads is intented for. https://heads.dyne.org/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Tor on amnesic Trisquel live usb
Everything is possible provided you know how to achieve it. But may I ask why would you do so when there is already the excellent Tails? Or, if you (and rightfully so) disdain the non-free blobs of it, Heads? Tails is developed by an excellent team and constantly updated, they take care of all the issues and make sure EVERYTHING is routed via tor.
[Trisquel-users] Tor on amnesic Trisquel live usb
I would like to have an amnesic (i.e. no memory) Trisquel live usb with Tor browser installed on it, but is that even possible?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Some questions about GPU in completely free software enviroments
>My understanding is that Nouveau has been working on this for some time so that may be why it works for you on that particular card. Yes, Nouveau is great. Almost all Nvidia gpus I tried so far work beautifully without installing proprietary firmware/drivers thanks to it. Problem is you WILL have almost every time a significantly worse performance compared to the proprietary driver. We have to thank the Nvidia chaps for this :/ >The card itself still has proprietary software inside of it though so you're not entirely free of proprietary junk though. You are referring to the proprietary firmware embedded in the chip. Isn't this the case with ALL GPUs? (Intel old and new included)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser not playing sound because it now requires Pulseaudio

Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
I am not a fan of anybody and I am not looking for fans, followers and all that business. Having fans is stupid vanity. I have been saying the whole time - no authority, no conformity to ideology (=no followers). Can't people be friends without imposing rules on each other? Isn't that what freedom is all about? If you still think that freedom is about control - we are not really meeting each other, not communing as it were.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Public consultation on "open" internet

Re: [Trisquel-users] family privacy Again
always welcome, mate Joe!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Public consultation on "open" internet
The page unfortunatelly does require non-free JS, but it's not a fault of Replicant, in fact it's fault of WordPress and related theem projects they're using. however, this shouldn't render the page blank. In my test it was visible, and I'm running GNU IceCat 52.3.0 with GNU LibreJS 6.0.13. 2018-01-14T18:58:32-0600 Caleb Herbert wrote: >> > https://blog.replicant.us/2017/12/contributions-to-arcep-work-on-terminal-devices-and-public-consultation/ > > This page shows up blank. I suspect you're not a fan of me personally at this point, but I sincerely do appreciate your work.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
> Do you think you could probably point me out to the correct RFC (or whatever web standard document applies) to read more about that process? I am not well versed on this, but AFAIK http requests are connectionless, i.e. there's a request and a response, whereas https is connection based. Because https communication is basically an autenticated and encrypted session, i.e. a VPN tunnel, which requires a sustained connection. Otherwise, each simple request such as GET should have been preceded by establishing an SSL tunnel, and terminating the connection upon response. This is simply too expensive to implement. So an SSL tunnel (connection) must be permanent one, in which, requests and responses exchanged. Even if there's no exchange of request/response pair between the client and server, the connection should stay open once established, until either connection times out or parties terminate the connection gracefully (by handshaking). This is as far as I remember. I might be omitting important details. As for a link, I don't have one readily available, but a DDG search with combinations of "ssl" , "connection" , "https" , "tunnel" , "rfc" words should lead you to relevant resources, I think.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Safely running non-free software when I'm "forced" to
Never connect your laptop to the internet while running any virtual machine that uses proprietary software especially winblows. Though I say the same to ubuntu and linux mint or anything else fishy such as proprietary software.
Re: [Trisquel-users] FSF adds PureOS to list of endorsed GNU/Linux distributions

Re: [Trisquel-users] Some questions about GPU in completely free software enviroments
Even Arm does! Powerpc I am not certain about, but yeah, amd and intel are mostly a dead end. Hasn't meltdown and spectre CONVINCED ANYONE of THIS?!? xD but seriously, arm is your best bet at this point. Eoma68-a20, and Eoma68-rk3288 I think?
Re: [Trisquel-users] How does one release something under a free license,
Is it really as complicated as the gpl-howto says? I wonder if in the future I should just send it to fsf and have them draw up the licenses... If I make any software.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
So far I have always thought that once the file is loaded, there is no need to keep any connections open or to send packets in order to close them. In fact it seemed to me logical that once the document is loaded, this "handshake closing packets" (or whatever the proper technical term is) should be assumed as sent which closes the connection. This means - it should not be related to closing the browser. Otherwise it seems it may be a privacy issue itself and the server software may be using such "closing packets" as information about (potentially) knowing what the user is doing on his computer (closing the browser, time spent on the site or anything along these lines). Do you think you could probably point me out to the correct RFC (or whatever web standard document applies) to read more about that process?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
Well, if the URL is "httpS" then the communication is connection based. The browser can just drop the connection (without handshake) and the server keeps the connection open till it times out. This (keeping a dead connection open) can put a small burden on the server, cumulatively, i.e. if every client just drops line wthout a "bye". Qupzilla seems to be playing nice. Just guessing. Looking at the payload of outbound and inbound packets could reveal it. But anyway since packet exchange occurs with currently opened site only, that means it is not related to spying (privacy).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
I got a new gprl license , try to find 5 legs for my linseed, it will drive you nuts always.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
Why should HTTP make hand shakes or keep open connections after the robots.txt has been downloaded? And what would be the exact mechanism (and purpose) for doing anything like that?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
> The sending of packets on exit to the currently opened site still persists though. It might be some protocol exchange (hand-shaking) to terminate an open connection.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
Disabled Adblock and deleted the adblock subdirectory from profile. On startup there are no packets. The sending of packets on exit to the currently opened site still persists though.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Web Browser
> QupZilla > Startup: multiple connections to filter37.adblockplus.org > Open preferences - zero packets but when I clicked on "Tabs" section more packets to filter37.adblockplus.org were sent Could you retry it with AdBlock disabled? (in the Tools menu) On a side note, there was an online/offline selection (in File menu) in the previous version of qupzilla, but it's gone in v2.2.3. This is a backwards evolution regarding privacy. I have worked around that by having 2 separate proxy definitions and selecting arbitrarily one of them (easier to do with "StatusBar Icons" plugin enabled). Proxy #1 ("online") -> Default to system proxy (direct internet connection) Proxy #2 ("offline")-> HTTP::localhost:54321 (which doesn't exist, so internet connection is blocked) I wonder whether qupzilla would still send outgoing packets (other than DNS queries) even with a bogus proxy definiton, as it would mean actively and deliberately going out of its ways to connect to internet - which I wouldn't consider as benign behavior.

[Trisquel-users] Re : Abrowser not playing sound because it now requires Pulseaudio
It is not a "Trisquel problem". Sound in Abrowser works great on my systems. Have you tried launching 'abrowser' from a terminal emulator and "open" a video? An error message may be displayed. Also, does the "Applications" tab of "Sound", in the "System Settings", list Abrowser? Is it on?
[Trisquel-users] Abrowser not playing sound because it now requires Pulseaudio
Since the last Abrowser upgrade a few days ago, sound isn't played anymore. The reason might be that Firefox has stopped accepting Alsa and now requires Pulseaudio. See: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/03/firefox-52-no-sound-pulseaudio-alsa-linux https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1199433 I can play videos directly with VLC, pasting the url there. But will Abrowser some time work like before? What's the problem with Pulseaudio for Trisquel?
