Since late July I've found that LightDM and SDDM are both frozen but unable
to escape to tty.
The another issue is there is a bug mis-displaying 100% hard drive usage in
"df -Th" command, but under "sudo du -shmx /*" the sum of every dirs are
always less than 16384 (16GiB = 16384MiB, my
Then, if you also have Plasma installed in your Trisquel system you just need
to run "sudo systemsettings5" then enter "Login screen (SDDM)" section to add
your favourite SDDM themes.
However, are there also simple tools to do so if LightDM instead of SDDM?
Simply I'm asking for
$ cat /etc/conf.d/xdm
DISPLAYMANAGER=sddm
DISPLAY_MANAGER=sddm
Here stores your preferred DM in Parabola, then
/etc/X11/default-display-manager stores this for Trisquel right? :)
Sounds good. Running your own stuff on your own network is best. I've been
running my own mail server since 1999. There's plenty of information out
there.
I want to learn to host my own stuff from my home computer. I looked at
Yunohost, but I am realizing that abstracting away the complexities in
hosting your own stuff won't allow me to learn.
One of the things that turned me off to using a package like Yunohost is that
it lays very close to
YES THAT IS WHAT I SAW. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP, SAVED MY LAPTOP.
I would like to thank everyone for your help, It is working again. would not
been able to do this without everyone involved help.
THANKS AGAIN
If you added the new user correctly, this is what you see:
myaccount@trisquel:~$ sudo adduser newuser
[sudo] password for myaccount:
Adding user `newuser' ...
Adding new group `newuser' (1002) ...
Adding new user `newuser' (1002) with group `newuser' ...
Creating home directory `/home/newuser'
would not let me add peter says already exists, true but not in log in, I
added Josef-Peter with pw but when I log in it does the same as before it
returns to log in?
Peter does not show up on the login as new user
I input #adduser peter there was no reaction? is that OK?
You should see all the account names on the login screen. If you want to
leave TTY1 and go to X, press ctrl+alt+F7.
You don't type the hashtag.
just type 'adduser peter' (without quotes)
# = root prompt
$ = user prompt
Create a new account
# adduser peter
I can Log in to my name on the tty1 screen but on the login page I had
changed the name to the person who was buying the laptop with no log in that
is when all the problems started. is there a way to change the name to peter
on tty1?
Also am I able to leave the tty1 screen and go to the computer without
logging in again? since the log in name is not mine on the log in page?
It's been a while. I can't give you the exact names of the packages (I would
if I remembered them and I didn't write them down). Try to find them by name
(synaptic). All I can recall I tried a few packages and eventually I got all
dependencies right.
Are you in Grub or TTY? TTY is completely different.
I changed the picture there (background.png). It only applies to the splash
screen. My mistake was to assume it would apply for login screen as well.
--Grub menu access shift or escape at boot
--Advanced options --> recovery mode --> drop to root shell prompt
--mount -o remount,rw /
--passwd user_name
--reboot
Exact command mount:
'mount -o remunt,rw /' (without quotes)
Set passoword:
'passwd your_user_name' (without quotes & type your own
Do I leave the Screen on that let me log in under tty1?
how do I write the exact command to have log in go back to PW?
"I think that's self-explanatory."
To you, maybe.
"Find out the missing dependencies and the required packages and install
them."
You mean these: "please install libelf-dev, libelf-devel or
elfutils-libelf-devel"?
Is it as simple as "sudo apt-get install libelf-dev" etc.?
I actually think you are onto something. i oticed that my shutdown screen
still uses the default wallpaper. maybe that image is drawn from the plymouth
folder as you indicated? I might check this.

How do I change back to a password on log in?
What do you mean "change back"? You must have set your password. If you did
that in Grub recovery, then at the login screen, type your password and log
in.
I think that's self-explanatory. Find out the missing dependencies and the
required packages and install them. Then, start over where it was left and
try again.
Did you set the password?
# passwd your_user_name
It seems to have worked, what do I do next it is still on the mate screen
what do I do now?

To be sure, is your screen similar? Grub menu and options.
Thanks I tried all kinds of combinations of Log in and PW, I did that and it
came up welcome to Trisquel GNU/Linux. still on the screen now what?
So, I reached the "make" stage, and I get the following error:
make -C /lib/modules/4.15.0-30-generic/build M=/home/user/mba6x_bl modules
make[1]: Entering directory '/usr/src/linux-headers-4.15.0-30-generic'

libelf-dev,
Try 'sudo apt-get install build-essential module-assistant'.
So, I'm now trying the screen brightness fix. It starts by saying that I need
to have the kernel headers (e.g. linux-header-generic) installed for the
kernel I'm compiling for. I also need the build tools (build-essential or
similar).
How do I get them?
Your Mac could have another hardware. Macbook Air 2015 uses FaceTimeHD and
this driver works with that piece of hardware.
That said, the driver must be loaded every time the OS is rebooted.
Cheese is the software that uses the webcam. Launching Cheese is the only way
to know if the LED
I'm trying the camera fix. Under "Firmware extraction", I'm at the stage
where, under bcwc_pcie/firmware, I type "make". I get the following error:
Checking dependencies for driver download...
/usr/bin/xzcat
/bin/cpio
Makefile:34: recipe for target 'AppleCameraInterface' failed

ANSWER
It was a bug.

1. Open this file:
sudo gedit /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
2. add these 2 lines and save:
[device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no
3. Restart Network
You wonder for a reason. That location was the Plymouth Splash screen file
folder. My mistake. Your solution stands.
The folder you are referencing - on my computer, which is running Trisquel 8
looks different. The Trisquel LOGO is there, but no Desktop wallpaper.
Which version of Trisquel are you running?
It is indeed ath9K_htc.
I reinstalled the whole OS, and now the proper Wi-Fi network is already
listed. But after inputting the passphrase, I still can't access the network
via Wi-Fi.
I'll reinstall the linux-libre kernel now, and see how it goes.
Btw, for your linux-libre tutorial:
"gpg
Since you mention lsusb I wonder if you're talking of ath9k_htc and not
ath9k. ath9k_htc is a USB WiFi. If it's the USB WiFi one please check if the
package open-ath9k-htc-firmware is installed.
Futile, it won't let the man in. Not without a password.
The only way in is to set the password. Recovery mode is the easiest way to
do this.
Artisde, when you boot your pc and you are on the log on screen if you press
Ctrl and Alt and F1 at the same time your screen should change to a terminal
and you are prompted for a user name enter it and press return or enter you
should then be prompted for your password enter it and press
Nothing really :
most of my data was on an encrypted HDD.
The OS was on the SSD, along some configuration files and .org files (oh
well...).
So I picked an old HDD from an older machine which I was using as an external
drive, erased it and made a new install.
Ah, maybe this matters:

So what has changed between installations, apart from your changing the SSD?
Yes, personal, not pro.
And you have selected WPA & WPA2 Personal?
I checked them from another machine, all caps or not, etc.
I also have the document from my ISP where they're printed/written.
How did you "check both SSID and passphrase"?
Sorry, I'll clarify :
When I say I'm rebooting (by choice), it's only meaning that I tried this
option, since it solves issues sometimes.
When I say it's a working card, I mean it's recognized by lsusb, and it
worked up until now (my SSD died, I had to reinstall on a new disk).
My problem
Every GNU/Linux needs a boot loader (Grub is a boot loader). Grub's there and
it has a rescue option in its menu. You'll just have to remain calm and keep
your cool and press esc/shift at the right time. Try multiple times in a
sequence.
I tried to make the day shade about the same as dim sunlight (i.e. shade),
and I tried to make the night shade similar to a campfire or fireplace
(ballparking low). The Wikipedia page on color temperature shows a simple
chart with a bunch of color temperatures and about what they correspond

I don't know about that. But if so, it would only be because systemd is just
so useful.
