Re: [Trisquel-users] Testing The Trisquel 8 Upgrade Process
Is it possible to upgrade to flidas from belenos using the update manager?
Re: [Trisquel-users] New Trisquel 8 alpha images
yes, but since trisquel 8 will have mate as its desktop environment, I was thinking if working with ubuntu mate makes life easier for us.
Re: [Trisquel-users] New Trisquel 8 alpha images
I'm wondering if working with Ubuntu MATE (https://ubuntu-mate.org/blog/ubuntu-mate-xenial-final-release/) would be less work than with vanilla Ubuntu.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Wire is Free Software now
What do you think of this https://wire.com/en/legal/#license-restrictions-and-conditions-of-use ? (especially 6 and 7) It's a bit confusing. It forbids certain things like selling the application unless you make your own application and it doesn't connect to their servers.

Re: [Trisquel-users] pip installer
If anyone wants to try it he has to fetch the source code of pip (python-pip-1.5.4) and replace req.py and _vendor/distlib/locators.py with the ones from gitlab. Sorry for the inconvenience but I couldn't push all the files to gitlab.
Re: [Trisquel-users] pip installer
I made a project in gitlab (https://devel.trisquel.info/mixalis/checkpackage). Help is needed.
Re: [Trisquel-users] pip installer
>You should talk to pip's developers about implementing this as a warning (not as a refusal to download packages). In trisquel there is an issue for that https://trisquel.info/en/issues/3741. Since trisquel has only free software it shouldn't be possible to install from pip nonfree. > You might also want to check for different classes of licenses. Do you mean other that OSI Approved? Sorry this attachment has the wrong file. 1. info has one value, the latest version.
Re: [Trisquel-users] "fork" trisquel
Ok, maybe after all it seems to have serious problems this idea (from a security perspective). If tomorrow lots of people are willing to help Trisquel, they all have to wait until their contributions are reviewed and merged from those that have the authority to do so. A hybrid model between the extreme of "wiki" and the current one is needed.
Re: [Trisquel-users] "fork" trisquel
In reply to onpon4: If someone malicious disables future updates for everyone can't this be detected from users, after some time?
Re: [Trisquel-users] "fork" trisquel
Yes, I checked it today. I don't want to change the programs in Trisquel but the way these programs are made. I don't think Uruk does this in a different way.
Re: [Trisquel-users] "fork" trisquel
"Great point, didn't think about that. I mean maybe such a wiki distro is worth a try, but I'd definitely wouldn't use it as my main distro" We can use it as an experiment for organizing collaboration in this way. I understand that there are implications in this model but if we don't try it we can't be sure if it works.
Re: [Trisquel-users] "fork" trisquel
Yes that could be happen. But for a malicious feature to actually work, I think it must be secret. If the users-other developers know about it, it's useless. As soon as the whole process is transparent it is not worth the effort to put malicious functionality.
Re: [Trisquel-users] "fork" trisquel
"What you're proposing is a terrible idea from a security perspective. There has to be some central control, because that's the only way the Debian packaging system can be secure. Otherwise, someone could e.g. push a change that puts a backdoor in all Trisquel systems that's almost impossible to fix." Why it's impossible to fix it?
Re: [Trisquel-users] "fork" trisquel
Maybe somebody tries to do that. In that case we revert that change.
[Trisquel-users] "fork" trisquel
Hello everyone, I think it is time to change how trisquel is developed/governed. It hasn't to be so dependent on 1-2 people. Everyone can contribute supposedly but the actual decisions fall on these same people. If, as many times in the past, they are busy trisquel suffers. What we have to do is offer the posibility to more people (everyone interested) to take part more actively. For example if someone fixes something in package-helpers (the scripts that build the source from ubuntu) they have to wait until their fix is merged and this can take a long time. I propose to work like wikipedia works. Everyone can change things without permission, unless vandalism happens. What do you think? The only change needed is this. Not another distro. So the first step is to host somewhere else trisquel and decentralize the whole process.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can we get a much needed upgrade to icedove to its newest current release?
I have submitted a merge request that fixes this a month ago (https://devel.trisquel.info/trisquel/package-helpers/merge_requests/165). Someone with access have to merge it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] gnome help issue
Yes, but the default is gnome flashback so the default doc should be about that. If somebody chooses to install gnome-shell then he would receive the documentation also.
Re: [Trisquel-users] gnome help issue
If you read carefully the description of the issue and as I see in the screenshot, the documentation talks about concepts as Activities and the top bar that are not present in Trisquel. So the question is. Should we change the existing documentation to be in accordance with the Trisquel interface or shipping the old gnome 2 documentation?
[Trisquel-users] gnome help issue
Any feedback on this https://trisquel.info/en/issues/21258?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is google authenticator free software?
Ok, maybe then it's better to change google authenticator with OTP in electrum if the first is outdated and OTP works with trustedcoin.
[Trisquel-users] Is google authenticator free software?
Hello, Electrum suggests google authenticator for two-factor authentication but I'm not sure if it's free software any more. It seems that the free version doesn't get updates and the application at the Play store is a different newer proprietary one. https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=google+authenticator=com.google.android.apps.authenticator2
[Trisquel-users] firefox signature
Hello, I run the script make-firefox and I get the following warning: gpgv: Can't check signature: public key not found dpkg-source: warning: failed to verify signature on ./firefox_48.0+build2-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.dsc It can't find the public key that the package was signed. Also maybe it's better in this situation to stop the script or it doesn't matter?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Freedom Fridays (development updates) 4
I tried all the servers (mirrors and the main server) with no updates.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Freedom Fridays (development updates) 4
I still can't update Abrowser. I have Abrowser 47.0.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel GNU/Linux code tracker
i "The page isn't redirecting properly"
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser version on Trisquel 6
Yes, trisquel 6 is supported until 2017 so I guess then I will have to compile the packages myself if it isn't a very laborious effort or switch to another libre distribution.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser version on Trisquel 6
Unfortunately it isn't. I have an older laptop that I can't install trisquel 7 because of screen resolution problems. I think I'm not the only one in this situation. So, I Would like a newer version of abrowser (not necessarily 44). I am eager to help but don't know where to start. I mentioned version 44 since it's already availabe for trisquel 7, so I thought that it's easier to start with this.
[Trisquel-users] Trisquel GNU/Linux code tracker
Hello, At https://devel.trisquel.info/users/sign_in refers to gitlab as open source. I think it's better to say free software. I think since you use and develop trisquel you have heard about this before. In any case https://fsfe.org/documents/whyfs.en.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser version on Trisquel 6
What are the steps required to update abrowser 44 in order to be available from apt-get as an update for Trisquel 6?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Privacy Badger
I just wanted to get a few opinions on this. I think it's fine.
[Trisquel-users] Privacy Badger
Hello, In this page https://trisquel.info/en/browser there are various libre add-ons that somebody can install to abrowser/icecat including Privacy Badger. When you install Privacy Badger a small icon appears at the top right of the browser which you can click and see various options. One of the them is Frequently Asked Questions which currently points to this page https://www.eff.org/privacybadger. If you go there and scroll down a bit there is a button that says 'Install Privacy Badger and Enable Do Not Track *Click here for Chrome version*'. If you click for the Chrome version you get to a page to install it and if your browser isn't the Chrome you get a warning to install Google Chrome. Is this a violation of GNU Free Software Distribution Guidelines or is it too extreme?
Re: [Trisquel-users] gnu librejs addon
Ok, I edited it.
[Trisquel-users] gnu librejs addon
Hello, In the addons list http://trisquel.info/en/browser the librejs one points to version 6.0.9. Since 6.0.10 is available maybe we should update it also? I would like to help.
[Trisquel-users] Re : update manager changelog
Yes, I can do that but "Software Updater" a.k.a update-manager has a changes tab that supposed to do this thing, but it says "Failed to download the list of changes. Please check your Internet connection." although my connection is OK. lc...@dcc.ufmg.br: > I do not quite understand what you are trying to do. Just read > /usr/share/doc/abrowser/changelog.Debian.gz (e.g., with the 'less' > command)? >
[Trisquel-users] update manager changelog
hello everyone, In update manager when I try to view the changes of a package it gives me the message "Failed to download the list of changes. Please check your Internet connection". I think there is no problem with my connection. Is this a bug and how can I view the changelog of trisquel packages?
[Trisquel-users] Re : update manager changelog
lc...@dcc.ufmg.br: > Were you connected to the Internet? For instance, were you able to visit > a Web page? Yes, my internet connection is fine. > > APT's logs are in /var/log/apt (probably what you are looking for). > dpkg's logs directly are in /var/log. The Changelogs of the individual > packages are in the subdirectories of /usr/share/doc. > I waw looking for changelogs of the packages that I was going to upgrade (for example abrowser). I was able to find them in /usr/share/doc/ as you said but the update-manager does not display them. If I run it from terminal it outputs the following: "caught exception: HTTP Error 404: Not Found" It's no big deal now that I know where to find them (there are other places also) but I guess it's something to fix in update-manager.
[Trisquel-users] wireless problem
Hello everybody, I have a lenovo g50-30 with trisquel 7 and I am trying to connect to wifi with this wireless adapter from thinkpenguin https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/penguin-wireless-n-usb-adapter-w-external-antenna-gnu-linux-tpe-n150usbl After some searching I found that a module called ideapad_laptop was blocking the wifi so I removed it. Now the adapter blinks for a moment and then it is down again. Do you have any ideas? Thank you.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ia32-libs
I tried the instructions in the link but unfortunately it doesn't work for me.
[Trisquel-users] ia32-libs
Hello, I'm trying to install ia32-libs in Trisquel 6 using apt-get but I'm getting a message that says that it depends on ia32-libs-multiarch. When I try to install this it says that some packages have unmet dependencies. I have seen various post on this and an issue but none of the instructions did the job. So, Is there a solution to this problem or it is some kind of bug? Thank you
[Trisquel-users] gnome settings
Hello everyone, After doing an update some things aren't working as before.
