Re: [Trisquel-users] Can a Lenovo G50-80 Run trisquelgnulinux?
"Yes, i too dislike the Windows Tax. But it is the burden we pay for getting so much value for money" if you want value for money don’t buy a computer new! you can get the exact same thing way cheaper if you buy it second hand i recently purchased a laptop for £25 including postage
Re: [Trisquel-users] Automating Youtube to Mediagoblin upload ?
as long as you make sure the videos are licensed in a way that allows you to distribute them it would be a awesome idea!

"Have you actually tested each of the free distos with freenetbootin? " yes all expect LibertyBSD
Re: [Trisquel-users] Helping new users choose application software
It may be easy to learn but a lot of people are just more comfortable using a GUI and there’s nothing wrong with that
Re: [Trisquel-users] Automating Youtube to Mediagoblin upload ?
i think i should of said make sure the videos are already licensed by the original owner in a way that lets you copy them
Re: [Trisquel-users] Automating Youtube to Mediagoblin upload ?
so i think it would be best to have a decentralized program if you can get more than 5000 people to be a part of it it would be hard to prosecute any one person

Re: [Trisquel-users] diffence in mac and ip?
also a great way to understand how ip addresses work is by hosting your own webserver here a tutorial for Ubuntu 14.04 but as trisquel 7 is based on Ubuntu 14.04 the same will apply: http://funwithlinux.net/2014/04/ubuntu-14-04-web-server-tutorial/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Citizenfour on Popcorn Time
How do you know your VPN doesn’t log your traffic? VPN's are good for bypassing censorship and surveillance from company’s like Google or yahoo but not from goverments *also you should check your VPN's privacy policy to make sure they don’t sell your data to Google XD
Re: [Trisquel-users] cloud storage
what do you need it for? if its nothing private i could host some files for you on my server
Re: [Trisquel-users] diffence in mac and ip?
i know ip is the acesss point to the internet well not rely a IP address is just a number that is used to refer to a certain computer on a network so here is a very basic image of what most local networks look like in terms of ip addresses (the numbers you see are IP addresses): http://92.19.232.58:82/files/basic_local_network.png your router also has a external ip address which other people can use to download data from the computers on your routers local network(if you have allowed them too) my external ip address is 92.19.232.58 but a lot of people buy domain names so that people can type website.com instead of 92.19.232.58 into there browser i have only mentioned the very basics of ip addresses but it should give you a good idea of what they are mac addresses are different from IP addresses as they are meant to identify that individual computer in the world so i think the idea is no computer produced will have the same mac address although with libreboot you can change your mac address if you rely wanted too *if i have given any false info please correct me
Re: [Trisquel-users] diffence in mac and ip?
you don’t have to pay for a hosting service you can just host from your home you don’t even need a very fast connection unless your streaming HD video etc
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!

Re: [Trisquel-users] Minifree price change
I tried to join forces with someone else who was making the same thing but with Coreboot, but for some reason they stopped answering my emails and so I didn’t continue. Also the code I was writing at the time was unbelievably messy and repetitive. just look: https://notabug.org/tomlukeywood/Libreboot_Flashing_Utility/src/master/main.c But it would be a good idea to try again. I think it would work better (due to the fact I don’t have much experience in making medium sized projects) to work with someone else to make sure It all stays organised. Is there anyone that would want to help work on this project? If anyone is interested feel free to email me: tomlukeyw...@fastmail.co.uk

[Trisquel-users] Installer keeps crashing
I am trying to install Trisquel on a friends net book (1GB RAM 1.6ghz dual core CPU 60GB HDD) on both Trisquel and Trisquel mini the installers both crashed giving no reason other than "the installer has crashed" i have tried the net installer but as both the internal wifi card and Ethernet card don’t seem to work with free software i am using a external wifi adapter which is not reconised for some reason by the net install net install seems to otherwise be working fine though so if anyone can think of a solution to it i could just use net install. Trisquel and Trisquel mini both work fine when run live from the usb stick though. dose anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installer keeps crashing
Its fine now i solved the problem by installing Debian 8 offline and then i was able to use the usb wifi card so its now running a fully free Debian installation which is fine!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Installer keeps crashing

Re: [Trisquel-users] Moving to Trisquel
"Only thing that I concern is screen resolution because screen is only recognized as 3200x1800" That seems like a extremely large screen resolution is it not? what do you normally have? "Is it possible for me to find their alternatives in Trisquel?" The chances are yes if you give us a list of the non-free programs you use we can try and find alternatives for you. "Because of I haven't use Trisquel yet, I don't know its capabilities, can someone compare Trisquel with Ubuntu. I know Trisquel is based on Ubuntu." its very similar but the best way to know is to try it yourself with the Live CD so you don’t have to install it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] New ReTux Release and a Level Making Competition
Thank you for your development efforts I very much enjoy playing this game!
Re: [Trisquel-users] New ReTux Release and a Level Making Competition
"On a side note, I think it would be massively inappropriate to advertise anything to do with ReTux on any of those forums other than gamedev.net" why those forums are for game development (with the exception of minetest and gbdev of which you should use the of topic fourm) as this is a competition in game development would it not be relevant? also do you know where i could get the tilemap for supertux/retux for use with tiled?
Re: [Trisquel-users] New ReTux Release and a Level Making Competition
Ok i have my submittion i made this in tiled i am not sure how i would export it to the format re tux uses
Re: [Trisquel-users] New ReTux Release and a Level Making Competition
Sorry so few people have submitted i will try to make one tonight but you could get a lot more submissions if you extended the deadline a few days and advertised the competition on a few forums. here are a few active forum websites where i think there will be people that want to enter the competition: http://forums.devshed.com/game-development-141/ http://www.html5gamedevs.com/forum/12-general-talk/ http://www.gamedev.net/index http://www.graalians.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=44 http://gbdev.gg8.se/forums/ https://forum.minetest.net/viewforum.php?f=17 (this is the off topic Minetest forum lots of people go on here but you must be logged in to use it) and any others you can think of also agreed the ending to Dexter was terrible!

Re: [Trisquel-users] My parents think if I advise someone how to use free software I might go to prision
"What on Earth gave them the impression that Replicant is a tool that terrorists use, anyway?" They assumed that as you could use it without the government monitoring you (theoretically) a terrorist would use it to communicate. but as you say they are more likely to not use a phone at all if they know what there doing.
[Trisquel-users] My parents think if I advise someone how to use free software I might go to prision
This is very strange in my opinion but anyway. I have been contacted by someone with a Arab sounding name who wants help installing Replicant on there phone. I have offered to help them by meeting them on the Replicant IRC channel so guide them through the process. my parents think that because they have an Arab name then they may commit a terrorist attack and this would then implicate me. I think this is very racist but anyway they are very anxious about it and don’t want me to help this person so to try and reassure them. Does anyone know of any law in the UK or Canada that would stop me from showing someone how to install Replicant.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Question about Free GNU/Linux distributions
"But would it be possible to use my nvidia card with free drivers and still being able to run the 3d graphics when running a game?" It would depend what model of NVidia card you have you can check If it will work with free software here: https://h-node.org/ If you have the right model of GPU and its powerful enough then you definitely can run amazing 3D games like: https://play0ad.com/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Question about Free GNU/Linux distributions
"what's the advantage of using GNU/Linux distro over a distro like fedora/redhat?" Fedora and Redhat are GNU/Linux distro's many people in the free software community chose to call what most people call "Linux" "GNU/Linux" the reason for this is explained here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU/Linux_naming_controversy and here: https://www.gnu.org/gnu/why-gnu-linux.en.html The advantage of Trisquel over Fedora is it includes exclusively free software so you have full control over your operating system and can know everything that your OS is doing. Some of the advantages of free software are explained here: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/shouldbefree.en.html "would I be able to use alternative drivers to nvidia drivers so that I still can play games under Linux via steam or wine?" You would be able to but as you would most likely be running non-free software it defeats the point of running Trisquel somewhat.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Google Play and childrens' privacy
"Would it be feasible to 1: install games and/or music apps on an unsafe device (i.e. with google play installed) 2: extract the .apk 3: install the app on a replicated device?" it would be, but you i imagine most phones will include drm to try and stop you from doing this. also some games will not run correctly or be too slow on Replicant due to the lack of a fast replacement to the proprietary graphics drivers at the moment. you can find a list of phones and their levels of support here: https://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/ReplicantStatus and recommended phones here: https://www.replicant.us/freedom-privacy-security-issues.php#recommendations I have Samsung Galaxy S2 running replicant and everything is quiet responsive and it can run some 2d games well but if i give it a more graphically intensive application like Minetest it rely struggles. I would reccomend trying and introduce your daughter to some of the games on f-droid F-droid (Replicant's application center). this has the added advantage of avoiding proprietary software as well.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Google Play and childrens' privacy
"How would using a legally downloaded program on a legally purchased device infringe copyright?" Many of these applications forbid copying. also in some country’s circumventing digital restrictions is against the law. (https://www.defectivebydesign.org/what_is_drm_digital_restrictions_management)
