Re: [Trisquel-users] Using USB 3 to Speed Up A Slow Hard Disk
I only use Western Digital drives. Not one has failed in my life unless is was dropped or mishandled. Seagate drives have given me the most trouble, very non-durable. Anyway, I also like how much cheaper disks are. I just want to solve the speed issue. I dont need instant access -- perhaps ill just get a faster disk drive. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Re: [Trisquel-users] How can I help bring new packages to Trisquel?
probably a better way to have the most modern packages for some programs is to install the Guix[0] package manager. I use it for "rolling" apps like youtube-dl and syncthing. [0] - https://guix.gnu.org/manual/en/html_node/Binary-Installation.html signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Re: [Trisquel-users] How to copy and paste a selected area on GIMP?
Ive been using Photoshop professionally for about 20 years and find it confusing to use GIMPs way of doing this. I was able to do what I think you are requesting by doing the following steps: Make a selection with the "Rectangle Select Tool" Select "Edit" > "Copy" Select "Edit" > "Paste As" > "New Layer" Now that it is pasted and a new layer, you have to tell the layer to be the same size as the image... Right click on the layer you just created and select "Layer to Image Size" or... You can just right click on the layer you want to copy and select "Duplicate Layer" and edit that layer however you like. signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

The best thing about Audacious is that it supports an insane amount of audio formats. I listen to VGM, FLAC, OGG, SPC files and more. Whenever I reformat my computer and connect my USB drives to it, I always have an issue where I need root to access my files because I used my admin user account, which had root priveleges. Re: [Trisquel-users] Ubuntu Studio As Base for Next Trisquel? Trisquelize for Ubuntu Studio?
I agree Trisquel can indeed be used as a DAW. However, in my experience I have experienced many jarring issues with Ardour and JACK inparticular which causes me great frustration. In Ubuntu Studio their configuration works much much better and is very reliable. If there is anything you want backported into the next Trisquel 9 release, please make a list and speak. Maybe even join in on the Freedom Friday meeting to add to the discussion. I plan to add my 2 cents during this weeks meeting, as well as help with testing the next release. publickey - davidpgil@protonmail.com - 0x01EB3346.asc Description: application/pgp-keys signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

I really like this. Thanks for putting it together. I'm definitely not very comfortable configuring all these things myself. I tiried with Trisquel 8 and I could get something working but then it would break. I ended up getting very frustrated and would give up. I think because of this I probably lost years of productiviity with my creative projects. This make me a bit sad and I really wish I could have been able to make a stable audio production system, at this point I just want to be creative. Heh, wild.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Re : Large Volume FOSS Backup Options
I definitely have. Ok, ill take another look at Dejadup again to see if it can compress everything as youve stated. It could very well be that I switched to backintime for another reason in the past, but I can't recall. Thanks for the assistance.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Re : Large Volume FOSS Backup Options
Thats definitely not true. Especially for source files -- I know this from experience. I will look into another program that compresses files as it backs them up. The default program in Trisquel is too simple for what I need.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Re : Large Volume FOSS Backup Options
... thinking on this, Perhaps what I need is a backup solition that compresses the data as it backs up. Right now, it all uncompressed.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Re : Large Volume FOSS Backup Options
Right now, I use BackInTime with an external RAID1. Its too little space.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Newer Software versions (gimp, libreoffice, blender and others)
I solved this issue for myself by installing the Guix package manager alongside the Trisquel repository. I use it strictly for installing the latest version GIMP, Audacity, Ardour, Godot and such -- along those lines. I would not use it for updating system tools etc. I don't have "versionitis" but I do know with certain software, it is highly beneficial to have the most current version. publickey - davidpgil@protonmail.com - 0x01EB3346.asc Description: application/pgp-keys signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8 - How Do I Change The Trisquel Logo On The UI Panel?
The easy way to edit that file is to copy the file from that location into an area that you have write access. change the permissions on that file so you have write access. edit the file however you like, then use sudo to copy or move you file to the default location. of course make a backup of the original. publickey - davidpgil@protonmail.com - 0x01EB3346.asc Description: application/pgp-keys signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Re: [Trisquel-users] "Documents" folder lost its icon and does not appear any more in the shortcut list in Caja after name change.
You might want to try and see if this problem exists in another user account. Maybe create a new user and test to see if that problem still exists. If your guest account is active, you can try that too. If the problem is solved in other accounts, its likely there is some config file you can delete and have regenerated. Re: [Trisquel-users] Fastest Libre GNU/Linux Distro for 800mhz 32-bit Laptop?
Im fine with no gui package manager, however, as of yet I am not comfortable with installing without a gui. Maybe it's time for me to get comfortable? I think first I want to finally work through "Linux from Scratch" so I finally get a fundamental understanding of how to custom build my OS. I can pile that onto my goals for some point in the future. > Original Message > Subject: Re: [Trisquel-users] Fastest Libre GNU/Linux Distro for 800mhz > 32-bit Laptop? > Local Time: December 31, 2017 3:45 PM > UTC Time: December 31, 2017 8:45 PM > From: calmst...@posteo.de > To: trisquel-users@listas.trisquel.info > > If anyone wants a lightweight distro, it will likely have no package manager > in gui form and be arch based in some way... thus, if that's what you would > want I would recommend Hyperbola. Re: [Trisquel-users] Fastest Libre GNU/Linux Distro for 800mhz 32-bit Laptop?
You make a good point. I think for now, im going to just remove LXDE and use Blackbox while keeping the Trisquel Mini install. Alternately, I may just keep it as a CLI only laptop. Maybe it will get me to improve my meager bash skills. Re: [Trisquel-users] i'm Thinking about doing a free software Community(Forum)
I think that the fact the people from other free/libre distros come to the Trisquel forum to ask about their own distro or to ask these greater questions about having an open discussion about free software means that we MUST unite these communities. In our discussions on the trisquel-dev chat we have spoken of revamping the Trisquel website after Trisquel 8 is released. Perhaps the discussion should be how to work together briding the gaps between each Libre community in a united front of some type. The communities of Parabols, Uruk, Trisquel, etc could all be linked from this site/community. I think the leaders of these communities should email each other an arrange some compromise. I don't think this idea needs to be a united front. If its lead only by AliMiracle, I think it will fail because it would be too much work. I keep tying "United Front"... maybe It should be called Free and Open Front (FOF) ... Don't be limited by only free software either, free hardware too! > Original Message > Subject: [Trisquel-users] i'm Thinking about doing a free software > Community(Forum) > Local Time: December 30, 2017 6:40 PM > UTC Time: December 30, 2017 11:40 PM > From: blade.vp2...@gmail.com > To: trisquel-users@listas.trisquel.info > > hi > i'm Thinking about doing a free software Community(Forum) > > Is it useful to you? > and What should I call it?? > have fun and be free > ali miracle and be free > ali miracle

Interesting. I thought Trisquel Mini was just a rebranded LXDE. Are you suggesting I install LXDE or Openbox and get rid of Trisquel Mini DE? Which is faster between LXDE and Openbox? Thanks for the suggestion of using Surf. I was using Midori and was not too impressed with it. Lots of pages I visit just wouldn't load. Re: [Trisquel-users] Ctrl+alt+del equivalent?
... I think you may be trying to tackle too many things at once... Solve one then go to the next. That being said there are two ways to edit a text file. The graphical way which is opening a text editing program and the terminal way where you would type " ... For example, "vim foo.xml" opens an xml file and allows you to edit it. Editing via Terminal may be too advanced for you right now, so I would just use a graphical method. [Trisquel-users] Alternative To WallCh Desktop Wallpaper Changer?
For a long time I have been using "WallCh" to cycle threw a folder of wallpaper images, but recently I have had issues with it in Trisquel 7 -- Not sure why. Re: [Trisquel-users] Ctrl+alt+del equivalent?
The text file in the openbox folder on Trisquel Mini is named differently than "default" LXDE, so you know. Its actually not difficult to set whatever keyboard shortcuts you want there. I recently changed "Alt + Space" in the file so I could map that shortcut to showing Synapse on my old 32-bit laptop. > Original Message > Subject: Re: [Trisquel-users] Ctrl+alt+del equivalent? > Local Time: December 26, 2017 6:06 AM > UTC Time: December 26, 2017 11:06 AM > From: enduz...@riseup.net > To: trisquel-users@listas.trisquel.info > > Trisquel Mini has LXDE that is built around Openbox. Re: [Trisquel-users] Monitoring desktop temperature with Trisquel
I have had issues recently where my server; which resides in a room with no air conditioning; was locking up presumably to protect itself from overheating. I was teaching myself about system administration and learned a bit about LogWatch. I just type "logwatch" in my shell and it shows me some info about my servers state such as the temperature and recommended temperatures inside it. You might need to configure logwatch to spit out at least a "Medium" about of info in order to see this. My server is an old Macbook Pro.
