UPDATE: This was the result of the "There was a problem with your post. Wait
6 seconds before you resubmit." error. So I wasited, and then found out that
the error was ajust a bug of itself, as I saw the topic posted twice, and I
was like, "oh, S**T!!!"

Re: [Trisquel-users] DD'ing the Live DVD to the internal hard disk is good for public computers.

That's correct, yes. But that's on the hard disk, though...saving to the USB
drive will still save you your files.

Not unless you are carrying a USB drive, then you won't need the cloud
anyway.

In my opinion, ALL computers, tablets and phones should be diskless, like the
Raspberry Pi, no matter what the chipset is. If you buy a computer, tablet or
phone, it should come with an external disk, with your choice of a Free OS on
it. No internal pre-installed garbage, easy to transfer to another device of
any kind.

After all, this is what computers USED to be like in the early 80's right?
With their floppy disks?

[Trisquel-users] DD'ing the Live DVD to the internal hard disk is good for public computers.

2018-06-15 Thread cochranizer316
The reason why I say the above is because a Live ISO, when DD'd to the
internal hard disk, prevents the permanent messing of system components,
because of the fact that it's Read Only. If someone wants to use a computer
with the Live Image as the hard disk, they will have to save their data onto
a flash drive. If someone does "try" to mess with the system, it can easily
be booted back fresh.

How this can be done involves booting from the live DVD, opening a terminal,
and typing:

sudo dd if=/dev/sr0 of=/dev/sda [status=progress]

And then once you eject the DVD and reboot the system, the same interface
will pop up and you have to select "Try Trisquel Without Installing".

[Trisquel-users] What happened to the persistence option?

2018-06-13 Thread cochranizer316
In 7.0 Belenos, usb-creator-gtk was able to create Trisquel Persistent disks.
8.0 Flidas doesn't have that option. I find this a problem because I like
having a persistent drive and want to use it on any computer I buy and
transition to. Now I have to do a full install on my USB stick. :(

Thanks so much for the info. I really appreciate it.

I am going to try and create a Debootstrap folder then see where things go.
Also I see trisquel-base already as a package, but already installed. I don't
know what that means.

[Trisquel-users] No Trisquel Server or Base?

There's Ubuntu Server and Base, but I see no Trisquel equivalents. Any advice
on how to build one, or find one at least?
