Re: [Trisquel-users] Problem installing free graphics card help here guys
>The radeon driver is free software. It's in the Trisquel repository. You should be able to use the graphics card you have if you install the correct free driver. The driver is free, the firmware is not, and you still need that one loaded in your kernel in order to have video acceleration.. or am I missing something? Has AMD freed their ultra-proprietary junk? If I am correct, the video card, even with the free driver will still be useless, unless you use it to play tetris..
Re: [Trisquel-users] Problem installing free graphics card help here guys
You are out of luck. Unfortunately to my knowledge ATI gpus require proprietary firmware in order to work properly (yes, even to display the correct video resolution). Consider (if you are able to do so) selling your hardware and buying some freedom compatible one. This website can help you -> https://h-node.org/

Re: [Trisquel-users] extract rar file freely?
>Unless of course you can prove that the developers of these BIOSes inserted rogue code your claim seems devoid of merit. The problem is we do not know anything about the proprietary firmware. It could have been as well programmed to perform malicious tasks. Or, which is give or less the same, it could have been written terribly, full of (sec) bugs, and therefore exploitable. Trouble is also most firmware gets very rarely, if ever, updated. So you are stuck with buggy, insecure firmware that you (or anyone in your place) can not fix.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Freedom issues regarding Abrowser.
> Since Abrowser is configured to execute all JavaScript by default, Ebay, Amazon, and even DuckDuckGo execute proprietary JavaScript when used in Abrowser. By suggesting these search engines, Abrowser guides the user toward proprietary JavaScript. I think that if Abrowser is not going to block non-free JS by default as Icecat does, it should not go out of it's way to direct users to pages that have non-free JS. Indeed. Pointing to a proprietary addon or to poprietary javascript on a search engine is equally bad freedom wise. No difference at all. And if we think we shall exclude the first we shall by the same logic exclude the second.

Re: [Trisquel-users] GNOME Videos: Apple Movie Trailers
>I think there is a difference between banning and not promoting. Not including a channel by default is not a ban, since the user is still free to add that channel. Including it by default promotes it. Apple is a nasty company, and I don't see why they deserve the privilage of being promoted by Trisquel. I feel the same way about including Amazon and Google as one-click search engines in Abrowser. There is another issue, which is that these videos are trailers. Trailers are intended to encourage the viewer to watch the full movie. Can the full movies be accessed through totem? I doubt it, in which case they will encourage the user to view the film elsewhere. It is often very difficult to obtain some films without DRM or non-free software. It's probably not a good idea to advertise a film unless you provide a freedom-respecting path toward obtaining that film. this is exactly the long version of my comment above, that is if I was in the verbose mood.
