update:
tried to unpack my modified .iso and check a bunch of text files contained
inside squashfs file - they are readable and seem to be as they should be
tried to make boot flash drive from modified .iso with rufus and hen replace
flash drive's contents (except squashfs file) with
yes, that's what I called "mangled"
I did not change anything in my settings so should be whatever encoding
trisquel 8 uses by default
UPDATE:
unpacked both original *.iso image and "remastered" and compared: almost all
files are different.
for example \isolinux\isolinux.cfg file unpacked from original *.iso contains
following text:
# D-I config version 2.0
include menu.cfg
default vesamenu.c32
prompt 0
timeout 300

tried to "remaster" trisquel 8 iso (64bit, default 2.6 Gb edition) using
these instructions:
https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/customizing-trisquel-iso
resulting iso was only 2.2 Gb (the only change I made is installing tiny
2048-qt package, to test if remastering process works)

however it still has its name and logo trademarked
it can be easily fixed by forking (like in windows-only "MyPal" project:

how to get xrandr (or maybe some other tool?) to use "nearest neighbour"
approximation algorithm (or otherwise disable blurring) when (for example)
3840x2160 ("4K") screen is switched to 1920x1080 resolution?
this reddit thread seems to describe a patch that allows to achieve it:
sometime before release of trisquel 8 there used to be a nice web interface
for searching trisquel's .deb packages, as announced here:
https://trisquel.info/en/new-packages-database
when I open http://packages.trisquel.info/ I get what appears to be a
barebones UI for ftp server that
AFAIK nouveau (that's how FOSS driver for NVidia video adapters is called) is
already included in Trisquel.
I occasionally run Trisquel 7 on my thinkpad w510 notebook (which has NVidia
Quattro video adapter) from USB stick without installing it and it "just
works".
I also tried to run
is Trisquel 8 going to explicitly support appImages?
for the sake of clarity I am talking about this:
http://appimage.org/
Trisquel 7 does support it (I tested it) but I could not find any talks about
appImages on these forums so I am not sure that Trisquel developers know
about appImage
there are no 100% FOSS drivers for radeon graphics cards, according to this
wikipedia article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_and_open-source_graphics_device_driver#ATI.2FAMD
AFAIK trisquel project is about including only 100% FOSS software so I guess
radeon drivers are not going to be
glad it helped )
sadly I seem to be unable to edit my previous post to point out that this
mirror does not contain packages for trisquel 3.5 (contrary to what I wrote
there)
oldest version of trisquel for which I could find packages available publicly
is 3.5, found it here:
http://mirrors.ukfast.co.uk/sites/trisquel.info
I could not find anything older so far, if anybody stumbles on it - please
let me know!
jxself, thanks for your detailed answers!
this apt string worked for me to setup alternative archive as software source
(for trisquel 5.5):
deb http://mirrors.ukfast.co.uk/sites/trisquel.info brigantia main
unlike trisquel's official archive and other mirrors this one seems to
contain all
viewing (and manually searching) things (packages) is exactly what I want -
any chance to tweak this tool to also work for discontinued versions of
trisquel?
archive.trisquel.info seems to be an ftp server or something similar. I found
a heap of packages (with source code) in
did you think that it might be an act of archaeology? ;)
there are a few other reasons but it might take me a lot of time and a whole
wall of text to explain them, so I hope that you can trust me there is no
easy way around it for me
