[Trisquel-users] Using Firefox with Trisquel
G'day Trisquel Forums. I am running Trisquel Mini 8.0 64-Bit. I can't stand using FSF web browsers such as Abrowser or Icecat or Iceweasel and would rather use Firefox or Chromium so I have gone ahead and installed them on my system. But I am wondering why are these web browsers removed from Trisquels repository? What freedom issues am I facing by using these web browsers? Isn't it less bad to run Firefox or Chromium then using a proprietary web browser such as Internet Explorer or Edge?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is Popcorn Time Legal?
No popcorn time isn't legal if you are downloading or streaming copyrighted material like movies or tv shows. How ever the likely hood of actually getting caught is small.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Dual Monitors
The entire point of running Trisquel is to run a system thats fully free software if this isn't your goal then I suggest installing Ubuntu instead and running it with the proprietary bits you require. As far as I know only Intel graphicss is fully supported under Trisquel for hardware acceleration which you need to run dual monitors or games. ATI is poorly supported but that may change in the future. nvidia drivers only support basic graphics not full hardware acceleration to get that you have to install the proprietary drivers for nvidia or ati.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gnome themes
You can download anti virus software for linux called clamav and you can also download calmtk which is the graphical interface for clamav and just scan any thing you download from the internet with that. There are also paid anti virus products for linux but clamav is free.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Why is Trisquel 8 taking so long
Thanks mason that explains some issues but is there a more technical explanation as to why it isn't so simple as to just remove proprietary bits.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What's wrong with DOCX?
I am glad that Microsoft office supports open formats now because I remember years ago when I was at school my teachers actually had open office installed so they could read open formats and that was great but when they upgraded there computers they didn't want to bother installing it for some reason so you were forced to go back to closed formats. Actually convincing people to install open office and read files in open formats was damn near impossible as they would just use Microsoft Office.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Why is Trisquel 8 taking so long
Oh I am happy to wait I just wanted to know what the development process was because I thought all they had to do was remove proprietary bits and be done with it
Re: [Trisquel-users] Why is Trisquel 8 taking so long
Oh they actually have the development image up on the download site now so thats cool hopefully it wont take much longer.
Re: [Trisquel-users] GNU parted - how to update to new version?
You could try Disk Utility that some times works when Gparted doesn't
Re: [Trisquel-users] Is Tor really that bad?
I would use Tor as my main browser for privacy concerns but it's like browsing the internet on dial up speeds and a lot of websites block it now days.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What do you guys do about graphics cards
Okay so it's better to use Intel graphics as Nvidia and ATI are not well supported.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Replicant on Nexus One
Pretty much just follow the advice for installing cyanogenmod like unlocking bootloader if locked, installing custom recovery. Only thing thats a bit different is that your flashing an image file instead of a zip file.
[Trisquel-users] What do you guys do about graphics cards
Hello everybody Okay so I have tried installing Trisquel on computers before and what I found is that the graphics card is often not properly supported so it can't power the full display resolution as the proprietary driver thats required to make it work has been removed. I have also found that getting multiple monitors to work is a problem as well as usually only one monitor is supported.
