SOLVED!
Earlier, installing via Thunderbird caused problem which is why one (at least
me) would install via terminal in the first place. In desperation I tried
that approach again and voila! It is apparently fixed.
BTW, can I mark the thread as solved in the title?

Yes, I have installed gnupg2 and checked for broken packages of which there
were none
I have had this issue before, and I have solved it before (with the help of
others, thanks) but I never figured out what was actually the problem - and
hence why it was solved. Now I have the problem again, and I still can't
figure out how to solve it.
The symptom is the following:

Mangy Dog's comment made me remember that the solution has earlier been
related to gnupg2. I can't remember how exactly I solved the problem earlier.
