I use Trisquel 7 as my main operating system and I am already a member of the
FSF (look at my profile page) but I want to upgrade the image on my member
card... Call it a matter of curiosity!

so you just install the latest version of trisquel on the member card.
a program called unetbootin can write operating systems to usb sticks

Meanwhile, I suppose you can use 'dd' command to write Trisquel 7 onto your
card?
Seems it might be the one with fsf in the file name:

I see that iso is 1.8 gigs. What was added by fsf, what's the difference from
the standard one?
