I run old hardware and can't really tell the difference. That's one of the
beauties of running GNU/Linux. I'm not a gamer, and I love light window
managers. I run pekwm right now, and I love it.

A funny thing happened with my iMac recently. I tried to boot Uruk with the
F6 procedure. It didn't bring up the menu to turn off nomodeset.
The iMac doesn't have an eject button for the DVD drive. So ... when I turn
it on it tries to boot Uruk, but doesn't, and I can't eject the disc to

Well Nvidia is very hostile towards free software, but yeah, I will correct
myself, "MIGHT have spyware..."
I am willing to bet if intel has spyware that nvidia has even worse...

Libreboot = so much better then nvdia which btw has spyware in it.
Well it is possible I suppose, but, it was a libreboot x200 with 8gb of ram,
and trisquel 7 works just fine so I don't know,
Although, it could be a problem with the OS itself as you put it...

I'm surprised at the hardware you all seem to have. I've been running an 8
core CPU with 16 GB of RAM and an Nvidia GTX 970 for almost two years now.

Please post bug reports on the mailing list and not
AFAIK Uruk is a deblobbed Ubuntu with the MATE DE. If it is too much
demanding on your CPU there is something wrong either with your particular
hardware or with the OS itself.
quick tip, until they make a lightweight version, do not use this on
libreboot, (too much demand on cpu. and that's with 8gb ram.)

I tried to run live/install Uruk, but I get an error message (below) that
stops me just after GRUB. This is on an iMac if that makes a difference.
Any ideas on what might be wrong?

I don't think it is a fork. It us using Trisquel packages so is more like a
respin. Which is good, because they didn't have to go to all that effort to
make a brand new distribution.

It takes a while for Trisquel to prepare a new release, after releasing
Ubuntu LTS image. Uruk is based on Trisquel, so it is again going to take
some more time. So it will take more time for Uruk users to get their hands
on new stable software packages.
