I would back it too if I had need for a desktop computer, to be honest
though, Laptops interest me alot more...

I like the idea of lemote more personally...

but it is good to see more potential libreboot stuff.

Wow, this looks nice. I would totally back this, if I had the money. ;-)

They seem to care about freedom so I think they will not include the
Broadcomm wireless and AMD gpu in the final package. There are good wireless
cards for freedom at this point.

Elaborating on what root_vegetable has said, this may be a very desirable
purchase if one has the money, even if one has to bring one's own graphics
and wireless cards. The latest Intel/AMD chips have a serious freedom/privacy
problem, so making something more freedom-respecting viable (perhaps ARM for
lower-end applications and POWER8 for higher-end) would be very helpful to
the community.

For the problems with current Intel and AMD offerings, see libreboot's FAQ:
https://libreboot.org/faq/#intel and the following discussion:
http://mail.fsfeurope.org/pipermail/discussion/2016-April/010912.html -- both
of which bring up issues of which I was completely unaware a week ago (and I
expect many others in the Free Software community are in the same situation),
and which are very concerning...

The prototype tested on the Phoronix website had an AMD graphics card and a
Broadcomm wireless card:

I think these are just prototype s though, so maybe these were just cheapest
for the system.
Other than these the POWER8 architecture is most free software-friendly
architecture comparable in performance to Intel chips. It is mostly used in
servers and supercomputers because of this.
At any rate, even if they shipped it with these components they could be
replaced as they would not be soldered. The Nvidia Kepler cards run with free
firmware and some Atheros wireless cards. I would buy one if I had the money.

Yes it would appear so.
