Re: [Trisquel-users] stopping unwanted telemetry in Toutatis browser
It is most definitely available for trisquel 7. not sure about trisquel 6. Which is what your talking about right?
Re: [Trisquel-users] stopping unwanted telemetry in Toutatis browser
I tried running epiphany from the command just like I usually do with a abrowser. This way I can track the pid right from the start. Any, up to many problems then show up on the command line which otherwise are invisible. With epiphany, for example, there is no obvious way to stop javascript from complaining when I am using it to review saved .html pages off-line. Abrowser in that sense is much more quiet, but at times things go wrong and then I have evidence on the command line which helps me understand what to do or ignore.

Officially, GNU IceCat is not yet avariable at the official GNU repo. http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/ Even worse, is not announced in the Savannah project page: http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/gnuzilla
Re: [Trisquel-users] stopping unwanted telemetry in Toutatis browser
IceCat is now at 45.7.0 ;) ruben fixed it.. if you're worried about privacy don't use epiphany, because it has a very unique useragent
Re: [Trisquel-users] stopping unwanted telemetry in Toutatis browser
Thanks for the advice. Will try epiphany: Web. from the add/remove programs menu. About to logout and close abrowser.
Re: [Trisquel-users] stopping unwanted telemetry in Toutatis browser
Please don't use IceCat. It is not updated regularly and has security vulnerabilities (right now it is at 45.5.1, while Firefox ESR is at 45.7.0).
Re: [Trisquel-users] stopping unwanted telemetry in Toutatis browser
Well, how about removing Tor Button and Tor Launcher so it is not overkill (I imagine you are referring to the network's slow speed)? That way you get yourself a nice, clean Firefox ^^ Or, install Firefox directly, or Seamonkey, or ** **= whatever you want provided it is free software and it works good for you.
[Trisquel-users] stopping unwanted telemetry in Toutatis browser
Browser Updates: Once per day, abrowser sends Update manifests for several langpacks to abrowser.mozilla.org. Starting abrowser & from bash shell and using it off-line, will cause nearly a dozen "addons.update-checker WARN HTTP Request failed for an unknown reason" messages to spill out to the console daily at unpredictable times, making a mess of console work in progress. I have returned to https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Protect-your-privacy/How-to-stop-Firefox-from-making-automatic-connections/ta-p/1748#w_auto-update-checking . None of the suggestions there seem to help me in stopping this. I am considering switching to icecat but am unable to test it as it requires Belenos which I cannot install nor build with gcc 4.6 that comes with Toutatis. I tried Tor browser from the command line and it was free from such daily checking, but that is overkill for browsing places I frequently visit. Will getting gcc 4.7 to build icecat result in the same unstoppable telemetry? Is there a free browser that GNU can recommend if all of the above cannot be fixed?
