Some of your hardware might have better support in a newer kernel. If this one is working fine I wouldn't update it as it could only cause problems you did not have before.

With your own isolated network you would only communicate with yourself, i.e., not communicate. Free software end-to-end encryption, using good-enough cyphers and protocols, is the solution. It works on the Internet. That is for the data. For the meta-data, the best we have is Tor.

I have distro hopped between devuan, parabola and trisquel a few times. But I finally found what I was looking for in hyperbola. One of which being, the quick updates feature. The other being, the packages are updated way more often then devuan. And the last being, its all free software
