Well, if you only use one device for your e-mail, you can set up POP for your
e-mail. POP deletes downloads all your e-mail locally and then deletes it
from the server.
Could you give me a link to the pdf file?
Oh, I didn't see that. Thanks!
Welcome to the forums!
The news should really stop showing people in hoodies typing in a terminal
window on their PC as "hackers".
I think he meant sorts of IDEs for LaTeX. And sorts as in various, but I'm
not quite sure about that.
Anyway, IDE stands for Integrated Development Environment, this basically
means an editor specific for one programming or markup language. IDEs
commonly have features that make programming
It might not be better than Searx, but Yacy is a search engine you can run on
your own computer. It doesn't have really great results yet, but when more
people use it, the results get better, too.
Looks like a great e-mail provider, thanks for sharing!
Did you try the netinstall image, too? It might just work. Also, try
installing with dd from an USB drive like so if the netinstall image doesn't
work on the dvd: dd if=/path/to/trisquel.iso of=/dev/sdX where X is the
letter of the USB drive.
Anyway, good luck!
I have thought exactly that about old video games. When they're not in retail
anymore, why not release them as free software? If a company did that they
would probably even benefit from it financially, as such a move would put
them in the news.
How do you connect to the internet? (like with Wi-Fi or a cable or something)
If you can get any internet connection working in some way, try installing
Linux-Libre with the instructions provided here.
Are you trying to get Gnuinos in here:
https://www.gnu.org/distros/free-distros.html ? That list is in desperate
need of new distributions.
I'm bitcoin on loadaverage dot org
I saw this a couple of days after it was added to GNU on savannah.gnu.org.
You'd think they would make a notice on a news feed like this one:
https://planet.gnu.org/. Nonetheless it's a nice program, GNU needed a good
text and video chat client.
this was in reply to stas
Says the guy who announces dozens of projects, yet finishes (read: starts
working on) none.
Great idea! Let's make sure this distribution doesn't end up like BLAG and
Ututo.
Download it from here:
https://libreboot.org/release/stable/20160907/libreboot_r20160907_util.tar.xz
I am going to have to try that book. I was already looking into learning how
to program and lisp seems nice.
Thanks
Sorry, but why are you trying to reflash? I skimmed through the thread, but I
don't see how that would help with getting a libreboot_grub.cfg on your newly
installed system. Could you shed some light on that, please? I might be able
to help a bit then.
I sent mine as well, now.
Keep it up!
Congratulations!
Nice to see tablets with free software installed exclusively.
Replace "flashrom" in that command with the full path to flashrom.
For example: /home/GNUbahn/Downloads/libreboot_util/flashrom
No, if you want to execute something you downloaded which isn't symlinked to
/usr/bin (symlinking something to /usr/bin is what makes "regular" commands
work like ls and such), you have to either type the full path to it
Which pods do you use?
I just joined Diaspora on diasp.org as Mappack, feel free to add me.
Chris from ThinkPenguin elaborated on this here:
https://trisquel.info/en/forum/best-free-software-friendly-router.
This is what he said:
"I may have answered this already, but here is why we don't have the new
models released. We're working on a dual-band 802.11n router. It's done.
Maybe you should ask here: http://abisource.com/support/ if they made an
exception for it (or something). If so, maybe you could package AbiWord
without proprietary fonts?
Haha, yeah you're right, will do.
I'd love to help you with it, unfortunately I am not a developer, but I am
willing to learn and maybe I can help with translating in the meantime.
Is Diaspora more active than GNUsocial? If so, I'll register to that as well.
Great news!
It looks nice!
Is the desktop environment still based on GNOME Flashback or was something
else chosen now?
Oh, your question is formulated like: "Why do it with the software method
when you can use the hardware method instead?" Or am I reading this wrong?
Well, if you use the software method you don't need a BeagleBoard and you
don't have to touch the motherboard at all.
Why bump it if it has an answer?
>Debian is not fully free and so far we know of no fully free BSD distro.
Isn't LibertyBSD free? Their websites says that they are trying to get it on
the FSF's free OS list.
I would just like to point out that debian isn't _that_ bad freedom-wise. The
current issues with it are that the installer suggest installing non-free
drivers, the documentation sometimes refers to proprietary software and
debian hosts a non-free repository which has to be enabled manually
>I am curious does Trisquel 8 that we are testing have a chosen name yet?
Trisquel 8's codename is Flidas.
Seconded. It's great on Uruk.
I think GIMP should be kept in the default install.
This should really be included.
The libparted bug error shows up because you are running gparted on a live
medium, I always get that message when I do that.
I don't know why there isn't enough space, maybe it is a strangely
partitioned disk, but unless you provide more info I can only speculate.
Anyway, it's safe to
Some decisions she made were, indeed, quite irrational. Maybe it was the heat
of the moment? We can only assume.
Under what license will you release them?
They look really nice! Especially the second one.
I know why she doesn't want to support Libreboot, I can also see why she
doesn't want to use/promote stuff the FSF sponsors, I just think she didn't
have to call Trisquel (and maybe some other FSF-endorsed stuff) "crap". I
have recently e-mailed her about a Libreboot board I want to buy (an
Maybe Leah (or another employee of Minifree, I don't know if Minifree has
more than one employee) put a T400 motherboard in an X200 case. You should
try asking them. I think Minifree's e-mail address is on their website.
Good luck
Glad you solved it, maybe this will help when I decide to update my X200.
Kind regards
Hmm, maybe you should try making a new partition table with GNU parted
instead of gparted. This can be done with parted /dev/sdX where X is the
letter of your HDD. And then typing mklabel gpt. Also try installing with a
netinstall image after that.
Please let me know if this helped at all,
The linutop 5 can be bought here, but when looking in their "quick user
guide" found here, I find this: Linutop can boot on other PCs
BOOTING on an external USB Key
It should boot automatically on USB key if not:
1 insert the USB key
2 Power On and enter
BIOS settings
(Del or F2 key...)
3 Go
Looks great!
That looks really nice. Is the background image included by default?
I am planning to buy an imac 5,2 and flash Libreboot on it. It uses the same
ROM as the macbook 2,1. If the macbook has some weird problems, the imac
might also have them. But if you say the macbook works, I will just try and
see how it goes.
I could do that, but here are a few other advantages (for me at least) to
having a separate desktop like having your documents and pictures on two
computers in case a hard drive fails, better sound (this could be solved by
external speakers for the laptop, too). I also would like to flash
Thank you
Happy GNU year, everyone.
That doesn't make their proprietary version of wine ethical.
I was thinking of getting a set of these myself, as it is the only way to get
reliable internet upstairs. The software on these devices is, like you
suspected, most likely proprietary and should be avoided if you can avoid it.
If you accept the fact that your router software is proprietary
I do not know about the best Libreboot computer, but an iMac 5,2 flashed with
Libreboot can make for a nice, cheap computer without proprietary software.
This doesn't answer any of your questions, but I wanted to ask if there are
any quirks with the macbook not mentioned on the Libreboot website. So are
there any?
Thanks
Nice to see Trisquel making so much progress.
I hate to see all the hostility in the free software community. I don't see
why you have to call a project "crap" if it is affiliated with an
organisation you personally dislike.
I can't really pick one, but 0 A.D., Xonotic, Red Eclipse, Freedoom and
dopewars are fun.
Try uname -a cat /etc/issue and maybe screenfetch
Try this: chmod +x ./install-css.sh
Sorry, it was the only wired mini keyboard I could find over there, and I
can't really think of other websites which you might not have tried and ship
everywhere.
He means something like this. ThinkPenguin also has them.
Both sites have more Wi-Fi adapters than the two I linked to.
Something like this?
https://m.aliexpress.com/s/item/32721224157.html
I tried GNU Ring a little while ago. Even though it is still in beta
according to ring.cx, it works fine. Well, it did for me, at least. You
should give it a go if you can.
First of all, oof, that's a lot of non-free software repositories.
Second, you added the Free Software Foundation's mirror of the Trisquel
toutatis repositories to your /etc/apt/sources.list file. So, like
Soon.to.be.Free said, your computer will try to replace packages with a
package from
>you can use any text editor (here GEdit)
You're right, it's been such a long time since I used Ubuntu and I knew nano
is installed for sure. But using GEdit is a better suggestion in this case.
>Again: you had better backup your files and do a clean install of Trisquel
7; >without adding any proprietary software.
Listed, you should definitely do this.
>And I see no reason why you would not be able to remove your signature.
Unless >you are paid to do advertisement for proprietary
Hi,
Does it really have to be a laptop? What is your budget? And what does the
computer need to be able to do?
The cheapest computer that I know of which can run Libreboot is the imac 5,2.
You can pick it up on ebay for 100 dollars or so. It can also be flashed with
flashroom, so no need
>Don't worry, I'm from the Netherlands :-)
Ik ook!
Thanks, Supertramp.
Wasn't claws-mail forked from sylpheed?
Firefox contains a proprietary DRM-playing component that is enabled by
default. What is wrong with Abrowser? It's on the same version as Firefox.
It has been around for a while, I even managed to install it on Trisquel when
it still supported Ubuntu 14.04. Unfortunately they removed that.
Nice find!
Could you tell me what the clock/RAM/CPU/net thing in the top-right corner of
the screen is called?
It doesn't matter if the background is black; as long as the lines of text
are exactly the same as on the picture I made.
You can pause the screen with the up and down arrow keys if it flashes past
to fast.
Cock.li is okay. Plus, they have a sense of humor.
That looks promising, I'd try it if I had a compatible device.
I voted for you, I hope you'll get some speaking time.
Congratulations!
I used it for a while, it is a good concept but I didn't like having it
running in the background at all times. The search results weren't great
either. You should try it for yourself and see how you like it.
This is on the Wikipedia page:
"MIT License[1] (but the Windows component remains proprietary)"
I have no idea what the "Windows component" nor do I know if it is in the
GNU/Linux version, but since it is Microsoft software, it would be advisable
not to run this program at all.
If you haven't got any hosting yet this might be worth checking out because
they offer librebooted devices to host your website. I don't have any
experience with setting up a website, but Wordpress seems like a good free
CMS.
I wish you the best of luck.
I am wondering how free this thing is as well, if the low level components
are free and if it runs a free distro I might've found myself a replacement
for my PC.
Trisquel 7 uses GNOME 3 in fallback mode.
Could you post that reference here? In your previous post after 'see' there's
only a dot.
Riot only uses Electron for its desktop app which, if I am not mistaken, is
just a web browser. Riot can be used without any proprietary software by
using Icecat and going to riot.im.
Heh, triskallenounisans. Nice desktop, supertramp!
FreeSlack 64 works fine for me.
I used to watch Youtube videos using a free software Greasemonkey script in
IceCat. But recently, Google made the entire Youtube website reliant on
JavaScript. This means that I can't watch Youtube videos that way anymore.
Does anyone here know a way to watch and download videos from
It works nicely, thanks!
I'm trying it now, but where can I find its config file?
Nevermind, it makes it in ~/.config/smplayer/ when you start the program.
