Hi Everyone !
You may be aware that your ISP may block websites and also stores info
on you.
Here in the UK your ISP has to store all emails, visited websites and a host
of other stuff by law for at least 1 year !
I'm avoiding this by using a different DNS Provider/Resolver.
Currently that is: h
Thanks for the replies !
I wasn't aware about BIND at all. Sounds very interesting, I'll have to read
about it - thanks.
True !
But if I use jxself's method, I doubt very much that the root servers
will ever change their ip address !
I also agree with the fact that I don't want to be subject to other people
deciding what is right or wrong for me to visit on the web, as Jodiendo
pointed out.
Finally, why should
I'm not sure about OpenDNS, used to be independent, now belongs to Cisco, and
yes, it
does block sites, you will have to use one of their paid services to be
uncensored.
But like you say, if you have kids it might be better.
H, debian.org works fine for me here.
Thanks jodiendo !
My ip address is dynamic, I've never felt the need to have a static one.
Currently still using dns.watch , but opennic sounds interesting, although
I'm not sure how reliable it is (uptime).
Hi jxself !
Thanks for the link and the long message !
Nice to be kept informed.
I just downloaded the previous iso yesterday, tried testing it today,
but it doesn't fallback to the vesa driver ?!
Normally I would boot into trisquel live then install and edit xorg.conf but
this doesn't seem poss
Use Calibre !
Shouldn't be a problem to open nearly any ebook !
https://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Calibre
As to whether ebooks get deleted, I think that's only a problem
on dedicated ebook readers.
Hi All !
Was curious as to where Trisquel 8 was at, so checked the dev.jenkins iso's,
and oh boy, there basically all there I guess.
Downloaded the Trisquel Mini (64 bit) and it flies on my old laptop !
Very Happy !!
Thanks to all the Dev's for their hard work !!!
Hmmm ... looks like good old lxde to me :)
install the bluez stack normally.
(I'm not on a trisquel pc at the moment so can't check whether
it's in the trisquel repo's, sorry.)
http://www.bluez.org/
Sorry, but what's a "ppd" driver ?
I always install from dvd, installing from usb seems to have it's problems
...
try installing p7zip from the repo's (it's commandline only I think).
Just installed it, been running it a bit and I must say:
If this is the alpha release, the final one is going to be super duper
awesome !!
Thanks to everyone involved !!
Hi All !
My laptop has an old SiS 671/771 card, and for those of you who are
interested, it's
always been a nightmare to use under linux.
The only distro that runs it out-of-the-box is PCLinuxOS, which I was using
for
a very long time, before the Libre Bug bit me :)
Anyway, the Question is
Thank you onpon4 for checking and the thorough reply.
That's very kind of you !
Now to read and digest.
Thank you strypey for your thoughts on the matter, I have much to read up on.
Like you say, I normally do play it safe and just use libre trisquel repo's.
Anyway, in this case it seems a mix of several homebaked licenses all in one.
Oh well, off to play with xorg.conf :)
I see that there are new Iso images out (2017-04-10).
Are these the beta release ?
Couldn't find a release statement, hence asking.
Thanks !
Yes, I did want to know whether it's beta or alpha.
On the other hand I might just download it and test.
Hi,
the iso image is actually 2.1G.
You probably downloaded an incomplete image, as it had not been
completely uploaded by 2017-06-18.
check out https://www.wileyfox.com/
there fairly cheap, but I think they run cyanogenmod ?
you'd have to "libre" it a bit I suppose...

If it's a standard certification, it's very likely to be
the "CompTIA Linux+ Certification" !!
Try and get hold of recent(!) Linux+ study guides or workbooks, and
then do as much as you can - there pretty tough though !
Not sure whether this has been posted about, sorry.

Could be to do with javascript ?
Type about:config into the adressbar (you will have to accept the warning),
then
scroll down the long list until you find javascript.enabled , you then
could
change this to "true" by toggle-ing it.
However, javascript is problematic, you may want to rea
Blimey ! Wasn't aware my original post would stir up so much Debate !!
The whole thing has taken an interesting turn, as it's now officially
going to be backed by the GNOME Foundation !

Hi alimiracle !
Thanks for all your hard work.
I would like to know which kernel and xorg version uruk-beta2 has ?
Is it 4.4 and 1.18 ?
Thanks again !
Hi Everyone !
Just wanted to know whether anyone of you has experience of using "heads".
https://heads.dyne.org/
Seems to be similar to the "Tails" live-cd, only it's based on devuan.
Thanks !
Hi all !
Just installed and fully updated Trisquel-mini 6.0.1
I've noticed that Abrowser is at version 41.0.2 ?
Does anyone know why this is ?
I thought Trisquel 6 was supported until 2017 ?
Thanks
Are you sure your time and date are correctly synced with an ntp server ?
That's the most common cause for the "DisableNetwork is set. Tor will not
make or accept non-control network connections" error.
the "bzip2: Cannot exec: Too many levels of symbolic links" error has to do
with 'ownership',
you'll have to change the ownership of the directories to the same as your
user, by using
the 'chown' command.
The closest I could find is: http://www.sweethome3d.com/
It has a linux version (both 32- and 64-bit), however, looks like it
has a java-runtime bundled with the installer ?
Whether that makes it "libre" according to
https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/java-trap.en.html ?

It means it can't access the X-server, therefore can't start the gui.
Probably a permissions problem (xauth).
Try: xauth info
from a terminal, have you tried starting gnee from a Terminal ?
this has a GPL license: http://goldendict.org/
or, if you like assembling your own you could check out:

Well, I think it's always good to promote Shops that sell Linux Hardware.
But I don't know which shop he means, however, if you live in the UK, try:
http://www.ebuyer.com/ubuntu
if it uses the ath9k driver as stated in the wiki it should be fine as far as
I'm aware.
You can always try a Trisquel live-cd/dvd ;)
try this:
https://linuxowns.wordpress.com/2009/03/04/setting-up-evolution-mail-gmail-and-hotmail/
On the Trisquel website under download, click on the "more" option at the
bottom, and you can download the "Sources DVD" (3GB).
