I don't know if it has to be an original, but CBS Sports Spectacular used
ELO's Fire on High in the 1970s and that was by fire the best sports
theme music I've ever heard.

Does the John Williams theme for the 1984 Olympics count? They still use it
from time to time for modern olympiads. If it counts, that is my favorite.
Also, as part of its Wide World of Sports coverage of Tour de France, ABC
commissioned a lot of music over the years (some of it by John Tesh!)
I don't think it's been mentioned in this thread yet, but I've always liked the
theme CBS used for Major League Baseball in the early '90s -- even if their
coverage wasn't as good as NBC's had been in the '80s.

It's a very underrated theme IMO. I actually like it better than the one
FOX used for MLB because it fits the mood of the sport.
