And is there an ABC Studios credit in the titles of S.H.I.E.L.D., or does
it begin with the Marvel logo?

Answer: both. The show begins with the Marvel logo, but when the chyron
title credits roll across the bottom of the screen, the first one is An ABC
Studios Production.

This is the second example in recent days of a public figure (Kanye West,
Piers Morgan) responding to jokes from a comedian (Kimmel, Stewart) by
tweeting that someone else is funnier. Kanye and Piers are both grandiose
fools, and I don't really care about them. But it does make me sympathetic
for the plight of publicists and other PR professionals in the age of
Twitter. I have to believe that no professional worth their pay would allow
a client to respond in such an adolescent and ineffective manner - but they
can't really do anything if their client sends out a twitter message late
at night. I should think the first rule of any publicist in the modern age
would be that none of their clients should be allowed to operate twitter or
facebook. If they need a presence, the publicist could hire someone to do
 it for them.

That misses the point of Twitter and Facebook and social media in general.

D'accord. Best English-language performance I've seen by Kruger so far -

deliveries during previous American film work. As for Bichir, he's a
somehow-under-the-radar Oscar-nominee who always delivers. I hope the Emmy

I don't think we have heard much about this program here - but I really,

never thought she was as good as she was in this. I was not previously
familiar with the work of Demian Bichir (though same on me, he has been in

the year in this first season of the bridge.

 Very good show, fantastic performances.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Kanye Doesn't Appreciate Kimmel Mocking His BBC Interview

2013-09-27 Thread Kevin M.
I suspect this specific instance is an example of a story that isn't a
story. Kanye's fans are well aware of his ego, and Kimmel's fans know his
style of comedy. Nobody has gained or lost in this exchange. Nobody lost
fans and nobody gained them. The only media hype generated seems to be from
media outlets who exist for the sole purpose of manufacturing hype.

That misses the point of Twitter and Facebook and social media in
general. There is a level of authenticity on these mediums, which is what
makes them appealing and generally successful. Now, is it okay to have a
ghost writer on a Twitter account? Sure. But if you're going to mix and
match, you have to at least identify when you're doing (or not doing) that
(think @whitehouse, where President Obama ends his tweets with his
initials). Otherwise, when people find out you're not who you are, they
tend to feel betrayed (in a mild sense, of course).

To proactively counter an obvious exception: As for George Takei (who we
found out has his husband running his Facebook), I'd describe his social
presence as less George Takei, actor than George Takei, George Takei.
To borrow his line from The Big Bang Theory, You try and stretch as an
actor – do Strindberg, O'Neill – but all they want is 'Course laid in,
 Captain.'.

Okay. So I guess what I meant was, if celebrities have such thin skin
that they feel the need to issue late night retorts to comic jibes, their
publicist should ban them from social media in general.

That I would strongly agree with. As my current and previous employers
would say to many companies, Just because Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,
and Google+ exists doesn't mean you have to be on them.
