'Hee Haw' co-creator and producer Sam Lovullo dies at age 88

LOS ANGELES (AP) - "Hee Haw" producer and co-creator Sam Lovullo has
died at age 88.
Publicists the Brokaw Company said Thursday that Lovullo died at his
home in Los Angeles on Tuesday. He had been suffering from heart
disease.
Lovullo brought country music and humor to millions of American homes
with "Hee Haw," the variety show that ran for two years on CBS
starting in 1969 and went on to a 21-year run in syndication. Lovullo
was producer for all but the last five years.
The show affectionately made light of rural culture but was actually
produced in Nashville and featured music from country legends like
Johnny Cash and Loretta Lynn.
Lovullo's son Torey Lovullo is a former Major League Baseball player
who is now the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

My van is way cooler than that.

I've actually made connections in the Springs of Palms and theoretically
have places to stay during the desert concerts, but even if all the bands I
like were playing, I just don't like the desert coupled with being swarmed
with so many people.

for the switchover, which may not be to weekly, but would try and make it 
easier for the show to do the remote shows that have been a bigger part of the

It's pretty clear from these articles that we don't know what NBC expects
from Kelly and it's possible that they don't know either. They can't want
her to replicate her FNC show as that would hurt the news division's
credibility across the board and cause friction with colleagues of color.
And if they want her for her political reporting skills, why not give her
Meet the Press? Chuck Todd's not tearing it up there.

As for her turning to the middle, the middle has disappeared. It's not
apparent yet and the political journalist class will insist that it is
there like it has always been there. But two things have happened recently:
first the liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats have faded away
leaving the two parties in an ideological opposition that they never were
in before. Second, since the rise of the tea party the GOP has taken a
strong lurch to the right and now is in power. As they make their push for
policies, the Democrat counterpush will not be for a return to Obama-era
policies, it will be for more progressive solutions.

Sunday night TV: I saw a tweet this morning saying the SNF ratings are off
20.9% from last season. NBC isn't going to risk further loss to placate
Kelly so moving NFL game start time to 9 PM ET is not going to happen. I
don't think the network has the leverage to keep the whole 6-7 PM hour with
the network. A January-May or June show with July and August reruns is more
likely. The VF article says she will anchor a newsmagazine so it would be
like 60 Minutes with maybe a newsmaker interview in place of one filmed
story and it should air opposite 60 Minutes.

official what many of us have known for some time: "Girl Meets World's" swan 
song will be January 20. 

I always thought that the show (and this may be my sentimentality talking) was

Vanity Fair is also pessimistic about her ratings future at NBC; they are
more explicit in making the point that the pretty blonde prototype is
designed to appeal to older white men, who make up a core part of the FN
audience. These are the people who eat up MK's assertions that everybody
knows Santa Clause is really white, and the Black Lives Matters leaders are
thugs. OTOH, minority women make up a big piece of the daytime broadcast tv
audience, so if she wants rating success there she will have to modulate
her tone. The article though also suggests she might be leaving FN because
she wants to move to the middle - the election of DJT revitalized the
deplorables (my term) inside FN, and made it less likely FN would be open
to more moderate, less sexist POVs.

Unlike Politico, VF sees Sunday Night Football as part of the solution, not

The NBC pregame show is the best program of its kind on television, and
starts at 7:00 pm. The game starts at 8:00, and goes to at least 11:00. I
guess they could do a 6:00 show for her during the season, airing it at
8:00 or even 9:00 out here on the West Coast, but that would require more
of the network convincing affiliates to clear it. Or would NBC consider the
old MNF start time of 9:00 pm eastern time, and get MK on at the 60 Minutes
7:00 pm Eastern time slot? That seems like a big risk to take with the
highest rated property on TV.
