Thanks David. I was kinda figuring that some of the characters the
"featured" have pitched made it into major skits, with hopes that they get
regular positions on SNL.

Re: RE: [TV orNotTV] New SNL cast member, four new writers

2018-09-22 Thread 'David Bruggeman' via TVorNotTV
Oddly enough (at least to me) the SNL page on the Wikipedia doesn't explain
what differences there are between featured and full cast members.  Like Doug,
I'm assuming they are on different payscales/contracts.
An SNL wiki hosted on Fandom claims that this distinction started in season
five (1980), with some differences over the years until season 23 (1998).  From
then on, this claims that all cast members start as featured.  As this wiki
isn't sourced, I'm skeptical.
This Quora answer quotes an interview with Rachel Dratch (the link to which has
rotted).https://www.quora.com/On-Saturday-Night-Live-what-is-the-difference-between-the-cast-before-and-after-and-featuring
It supports the notion that everyone starts as featured, as it was in Dratch's
contract that she would be 'featured' for two seasons before becoming regular
cast.  She goes on to say that getting featured people screen time is a lower
priority.  But, as seems to be common, if you write something good enough to
get on the show, you can cast yourself in it.  I would also guess if you do
good enough work, you'd get bumped up to full cast sooner.

I am *not* sufficiently motivated to try and read the Tom Shales book on SNL to
see if this is explained therein.

true. Davison only seems to get a stint on weekend update. I don't seem
to recall him in live skits, at least with any significance.

But, kudos to him, he did get a talented fiancée from SNL interaction.

Kevin - please do not feel bad about posting that gofundme link here. I
believe, based on tvbarn tenure, you have the right to post it here to the
'friends you've likely never met' (I know you have met some). Again, I
hope you and your family make it through this period with family unity and
understanding.

I've made my donation.

If you ever need a black-hole to vent into, please feel free to email me.
or skype or voice, or whatever. You've given me enough laughs that I can
pay something back. I know that some employers have "Employee Assistance
Programs" where you can get some counselling for free, but I'm unsure if
your anal-lube-label-printer offers that -- perhaps enquire about that.
Heck, even ask your funeral provider if they offer counselling gratis.

[TV orNotTV] Re: NFL question?

Maybe CBS should do a seamless transition to 60 Minutes- do they really
need to have a local break between the end of the late game and 60?

Sheesh, if this was going to be the outcome, I wonder if the Murdochs would
have canned Bill O'Reilly and others. Maybe they'll bring him back?

Re: [TV orNotTV] OT: condolences

2018-09-22 Thread Melissa P
Oh, Kevin, I am so sorry to read about your mom. I spend almost no time on
Facebook these days, but I remember her often being a presence on your page.

I can't say that I almost got to meet her, but I remember that back in 2008
you helped me write a piece for a contest with the agreement that if I won,
I would take your mom with me to claim the prize, which I readily agreed to
do. Unfortunately, I didn't win (although I should have!), so your mom and
I didn't get to claim the experience.

Please know that I will be thinking of you.

Kevin, my condolences to you and your family. I'm sure the
regulars here and tvbarn pass the same over to you.
