Fleabag is genuinely transcendent; PWB rightly dominated the night. The
show I came away determined too watch is Barry, which I watched the first
two episodes of then lost track of.

And yes, I was of course joking about Jon Batiste. It’s just that instead
of playing music from the winning program as the winner walked up to the
stage, they played mostly random pop songs from someone ‘s IPhone Spotify
List, while a voiceover made even more rando irreverent comments that I
suppose were supposed to be funny.

I don’t know if it was related to the absence of a host, but I thought this
was by far the most awkward Emmy telecast in history. The odd music, the
off kilter walk up commentary, the difficulty several presenters had
reading the prompter, the ill advised practice of frequently having
nominees read in a video montage prior to the presenters come out, who then
do brief schtick before going straight to reading the winner, by which time
not only have we forgotten the nominees but also the category.

[TV orNotTV] Aron Eisenberg, Nog of ST: Deep Space Nine, dead at 50

The actor and photographer had a renal condition from birth, which accounted 
for him being a good height to play kids and Ferengi well through his 20s.  
Passed on Saturday quite suddenly, no official cause as yet.

A documentary on Deep Space Nine was released this year ("What We Left 
Behind"), and Eisenberg features in it along with many of the secondary 
characters from the show.  And like many of his colleagues, he continued to 
make appearances at conventions.  My limited interaction with him at one 
convention was quite lovely, but I felt that way about anyone from DS9 I saw in 
person.

Comedy bits were hit and miss. Nothing that will go viral.
Thomas Lennon's jokes, for the most part, were lame. It probably sounded
good in the planning meetings. Was that bad enough they should have just
stopped the bit?

Appreciate the joke, but Rickey Minor was listed as musical director and
there was a "band" credit, which is weird because the producers said that
there was not going to be a band.  They were getting more dead on as the
evening progressed, but I do wonder if Phoebe Waller-Bridge's sister wrote
a theme song for "Fleabag."  Guess I'll have to go to Amazon Prime Video to
find out.

When the story first broke I was going to predict Gillies was toast. I
didn't because... who knows these days? But as I was watching Country
Music and they were showing blackface entertainers in the late 19th
and early 20 centuries I remembered Megyn Kelly and the financial bath
NBC took over her. There was no way NBC was going to keep Gillies on.
