and Lindelof's writers room behavior on "Lost" was released by Vanity Fair 
last week, THR prints from the same book a detailed tale of the very toxic 
culture that has been a part of "SNL" from the beginning--and how Lorne 
escapes blame for it every time (except now):

I think there is still pending litigation from the original incarnation of
the series

It’s a horrible idea and it was horribly executed. Families “gifted” the
home makeovers lost everything. Residents of Neighborhoods who endured the
non-stop destruction (I can’t call it construction) were denied access to
their own streets and forcibly removed from their own property so the
cameras wouldn’t capture the actual reactions from neighbors.

The episode was to have aired May 28 and seemingly would have reported on 
the Florida governor and Presidential candidate viewing acts committed on 
prisoners at Guantanamo Bay that the UN considers torture while he was 
serving as a JAG at the U.S. naval base--the premium channel/streamer, the 
former of which will be renamed Paramount+ with Showtime at the end of the 
month, has given no reason for the cancellation:

The TV newsmagazine spinoff of the troubled alt-media company began in 2013 
on HBO on Friday nights after Bill Maher (and Maher was listed as a 
producer).  Two Emmys later, it expanded to the weeknight "Vice News 
Tonight" in 2016, the first and only time HBO cablecast a nightly news 
program.  Both shows were cancelled by HBO at the end of 2018, with the 
weeknight show moving to Vice's basic cable channel co-owned by A+E (where 
it's now a once-a-week series) and the weekly show moving to SHO.

 I am very surprised that Licht comes off so much worse than even I had 
 previously seen him. I knew he was enthralled to his corporate overlords,

 is raining when it is. Licht may or may not be self deluded, but his 
 bosses 
 are clear eyed - they want CNN to be another conservative News voice. 
 Period. Not more accurate or with more journalistic integrity, just more 
 conservative.

 As I have been arguing for years, Licht is of course right that there 
 were serious problems with Zucker’s CNN, but the problem was not that they 
 were too liberal or ideological, but too personal. CNN scored through the 
 Trump era by turning the news into a cult of personality, with so many of 
 the anchors and reporters making the story about themselves. Cooper is not 
 the most obnoxious, but he pioneered this approach to cable news a long 
 time ago, reporting on war and disaster by telling us more about how it 
 made him feel than what was actually happening. A little of this, in 
 extremis, is gripping (the catch in Cronkite’s voice as he reports the 
 death of a President). As a SOP, it is a disaster. 

 The solution is not to make the staff more like Fox, but to train them 
 to focus on the facts. Licht pays lip service to this, but in practice is 
 only focused on questions like: “Do gun owning farmers in Kansas like our 
 show?”. And that’s because that is the only kind of question Zaslov and 
 Malone care about.
