Re: [TV orNotTV] CW unveils new branding

2024-01-16 Thread Diner
My DVR was set to record new episodes of "Whose Line," but when the current
run of episodes started in November, I noticed it wasn't working anymore. I
soon discovered that was because CW had changed its affiliation from WPSG
to WPHL, and my DVR was set to record only from the old station.

I watched a bit of the awards show during commercial breaks during the game
and I was pleased with what I saw. The show seemed less bombastic than in
previous years and nobody was pretending that TV, or the awards, were more
important than what they are.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Your Emmy winners

2024-01-16 Thread PGage
The Emmy winner list seemed like a duplication of TV part of GG a week ago,
which was kind of wierd. Awards voters love The Bear (as do I), but maybe
spread it around a bit? Oddly, I read the GG was for Season 2 and Emmys for
S1. They also love White Lotus and Succession, which I do not, but whatever…

Except, 1 both GG and Emmy rewarded what for me is the worst part of
Succession (Culkin) while the Emmys completed the biggest series “Fuck You”
in the history of television to “Better Call Saul”, which for my money was
as good or better than “Breaking Bad”, which itself was one of the 10 best
drams in the history of television. Odenkirk and particularly Rhea Seehorn
were so deserving of an award. The show now holds the record for most
nominations in Emmy history (53 according to the Wikis) without a singe win.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Re: Quickie Review: Monsieur Spade

2024-01-16 Thread Kevin M.
At least his accent is passable. Some of them make me convinced the British
still hold a grudge against Dick Van Dyke for his accent in Mary Poppins.

I like that for Spade’s wardrobe, they seem to have taken a cue from what
Bogart wore in his later years. Makes sense, considering he wore his own
clothes in most of his movies.

True Detective seemed to confuse noir with slow and pedantic.

[TV orNotTV] Re: Quickie Review: Monsieur Spade

2024-01-16 Thread 'Dave Sikula' via TVorNotTV
As always, I question yet another British actor playing yet another
American for no good reason, but there was enough here to bring me back.

On the other hand, I found so much to dislike in the reincarnation of "True
Detective" that I won't be back. Too many unpleasant characters, amateurish
acting (I'm lookin' at you, Kali Reis), the horror-movie tropes, and an
overall feel of trying too hard were all turnoffs.
