However, I have not been able to find confirmation of this in regular news outlets using a google search, or searching places like the NYT and CNN. I guess this is not as big a death in the general population as it is in my field, but still he was a notable person, and I would think the kind of guy that would rate an obit in the NYT, and he was old enough that they probably had one ready to go. I am wondering if anyone else has heard anything about this, or am I being suckered somehow? I had to leave home earlier this afternoon to take my daughter to the airport; having just returned him I see his obit is in the paper of record (famous people are not actually dead until we can read about it in the New York Times): http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/12/health/dr-thomas-szasz-psychiatrist-who-led-movement-against-his-field-dies-at-92.html -- TV or Not TV The Smartest (TV) People! Re: [TV orNotTV] NotTV: Is Thomas Szasz's Death a Myth?
Well, reason.com has three blog posts on him today, but they're also going back to the same source you note. I'd lean towards dead. Re: [TV orNotTV] NotTV: Is Thomas Szasz's Death a Myth?
FWIW, the Wikipedia entry on Szasz was just protected after numerous edits to report him as dead; the only source ever quoted was reason.com, which was dismissed as not being a reliable source. Don't know, but it looks like neither does anyone else...
