I would give Hannity the benefit of the doubt on this point. He is said to
make $36 million and he is going to have a wealth management team that will
invest some of that in real estate. Since real estate is not his main
concern there has to be proof that he's bringing the HUD secretary on his
show in order to affect housing policy in a way that profits him personally.

But since he has wealth management people managing his real estate
portfolio there's no reason he's getting professional advice from Michael
Cohen and needs to keep the details suppressed under attorney/client
privilege. Something is going on with that.

Just as there is a distinction between the host of a comedy show and the
host of what is ostensibly a news program, there is a distinction between
shooting victims and Jimmy Kimmel.

And when Kimmel was targeted by the right when he included his child as
part of the argument on health care, he responded intelligently. He wasn’t
deliberately poking the bear with a stick at that time, he was offering a
smart and funny reply. But you cannot say the same thing in this instance.
He was poking the bear... repeatedly... and he was giddy by the response.
And that behavior is not constructive, nor is it to be rewarded or praised.

As I said, maybe it was funny, but Kimmel is capable of being funny in
other ways. The jokes cost him the high ground. And maybe that doesn’t
matter now, but it will matter the next time he wants to call out somebody
else for a series of cheap shots.

I take strong exception to this. Kimmel and his family have been under
personal attack by right wing trolls since he spoke up about the health
care proposal last year. The idea that he earns these attacks by responding
to Hannity is morally repugnant.

I don't know why Hannity provoked Kimmel. Maybe it was an attempt to gain
ratings, maybe some other reason. But as the Parkland students showed, when
attacked on the air or on social media, retweet it and respond, don't just
hope that no one will notice the attack if you just walk away.

I've seen this happen in wrestling a few times when someone will "feud"
with a wrestler from a competing promotion, but like you said it serves no
purpose since nobody would want to show up on the others show since nobody
would want to promote the other promotion.

For me, the tell will be what, if anything, Kimmel says on Monday night's
program.  His program was a rerun on Friday (as usual).  If Kimmel keeps it to
Twitter and off a major network, this fizzles faster.
Now that I've checked their respective timelines and seen that this has been
dormant since late Friday, it may not take that long.

like ratings and attention, so when both saw this getting traction in the

Show and just as Colbert has every member of the Trump cult on his show
where they make nice, eventually Kimmel and Hannity will do the same.

Harlan Ellison was (and despite a near-crippling stroke, by all accounts he
still is) a force of nature. On one installment of Tom Snyder's CBS show,
Ellison was loudly mocking all the liberals who were saying nice things
about Richard Nixon, who had recently passed away. He lamented that the
real problem with America is we do not hold grudges long enough. We let
people up off the mat. Hannity has harmed the quality of media, and he
should not be let out of the penalty box. But he will be, by Kimmel and
others. Because liberals love to forgive and forget, then they wonder why
history repeats itself.

What Kevin proposes is the equivalent of the Allen/Benny feud. The feud
exists to promote both shows and at the end they will get together and wink
at us about the feud. That doesn't seem what is happening to me. Hannity
certainly isn't trying to build up Kimmel's viewers among the FNC faithful
and Kimmel isn't trying to get people to watch Hannity. Hannity, in his
attacks, is trying to drive viewers away from Kimmel's show, not towards
it. Colbert had O'Reilly on both of his shows - on the Colbert Report it
was to show that both his and O'Reilly's shows were entertainment and not
news. Colbert had O'Reilly on the Late Show to show that he (Colbert) did
not see the rivalry as genuine.

Hannity is attacking Kimmel out of the blue. Kimmel said nothing about
Hannity; he did a bit based on a video clip of Melania Trump and Hannity
attacked him as a way to ride to her rescue. By striking back at Hannity
Kimmel makes it entertaining. Unless Hannity finds something truly
transgressive about Kimmel, and if he didn't have it before the first
attack he doesn't have it now, it's school yard name calling. In that case,
it's no-lose for Kimmel. He can continue counterpunching and making Hannity
look foolish until Hannity runs out of steam. And I predict that is the end
game. Hannity goes nowhere and gives up the attacks before he suffers too
much damage. But there is no scenario where they get together and pretend
it was all for show.

Free publicity for both men/shows. It will end when the next idiot says
something stupid or posts something stupid on social media. And a year from
now, if not sooner, one of the guys will go on the other guy’s show and
they will shake hands and laugh.

Can anybody figure out an end game here? Hannity isn't asking ABC to fire
Kimmel and Kimmel isn't moved to call for any action. The action is Hannity
calls Kimmel names and Kimmel shows the attacks in his monologue and throws
back some insults. Hannity isn't facing any consequences from FNC for his
attacks so he can continue indefinitely. Kimmel is only responding so he
can continue until Hannity drops the attacks.

When Fred Allen and Jack Benny had their "feud" on radio it was mutual
promotion for their radio shows. This "feud" would serve the same purpose
except neither seems to want to promote the other's program. And neither is
going to take the other off the air. There is zero news value and the feud
cannot heat up because it has no heat to start with.

Hannity vows to attack Kimmel until ABC comic apologizes

NEW YORK (AP) - Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity is vowing to continue
his attacks on ABC late-night comic Jimmy Kimmel until Kimmel apologizes
for a segment in which he joked about the accent of first lady Melania
Trump, who was born in Slovenia.
The dispute between the television personalities is unusually vitriolic,
with Hannity calling Kimmel a "sick, twisted, creepy, perverted weirdo"
during his Fox show on Friday.
Kimmel returned fire on Twitter, often in off-color fashion. He says it's
sad that anyone who is "slobbering over" President Donald Trump would call
him a pervert. When Trump was the Republican presidential nominee he was
heard on tape bragging about fame enabling him to grope women, and he later
apologized.
Hannity ran several clips of Kimmel routines he said exposed the comic's
"creepy" past.

One of these guys is a silly clown with a second rate nightly tv
entertainment show who knows nothing about politics or world events. The
other is Jimmy Kimmel.

For the record I am a liberal and do not want to boycott Fedex. I’m not

Re: [TV orNotTV] Hannity/Kimmel feud heating up.

2018-04-06 Thread Kevin M.
Worth noting I read somewhere this week that Maddow is now beating Hannity
in the ratings, so you can expect him to pick fights with a lot of famous
people in a desperate attempt to keep the spotlight.

One thing about my new year's resolution of blocking all the blowhards on
social media is it allows me to virtually ignore all the words and focus on
the actions of people. All these pundits and hosts... if the cliche about
the tree falling in the forest were applied to them, if people stopped
listening to them... they would make no sound as they fell. Don Imus just
retired after 50 years in broadcasting... no sound as he fell. A "comic"
named Owen (last name withheld so he won't get publicity) posted a series
of "jokes" targeting the Parkland kids last week; enough people reported
and blocked him on Twitter that his account was suspended... he opened a
second account and they immediately suspended that one, too... no sound as
he fell. Ad-buys on Laura Ingraham's show now cost less than I pay for
rent... no sound as she fell.

A few months ago the NY Times did their story on people who were buying
social media followers, now we have the Cambridge Analytica scandal
revealing a percentage of the hype and hysteria was manufactured. The only
power these people have is the power we give them by paying attention to
them. Like Trump himself, they get off on hearing their name spoken
allowed, even in a negative context. In summary, do not feed the trolls.
