Sorry, John but this is really happening and I am having it on a daily
basis in the last 2 weeks on both dev machine and production. I am
using Apache httpClient and this code was working fine for months
before this started to happen 2 weeks ago. I have a java call String
line =reader.readLine();
How long does it take for the change to propagate. My application is
still down along with every application using the twitter4j java
library

I don't see how this feature could impact user privacy more than what
it is right now. Today Twitter stores all links for all users and they
can spy on them and the t.co shortner is not changing that :)
My question is, will developers have access to analytics from t.co
through API?

A simple solution I experimented is using Google Ajax translation
APIs, it is pretty reliable
http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxlanguage/documentation/
but it works only for web apps and you have to push all the tweets
from the sample stream to the client to filter.
