[twitter-dev] Email Validation Check

2010-09-28 Thread Devin Dixon
I already know that Twitter does not allow us to retrieve the users
email when using OAuth. So on my site I am developing a feature where
they have to validate their email before logging in. The problem I am
foreesing is them not using the account associated with the Twitter
address.

So my question is, is there a way to validate that the email the users
enter is indeed the same email address associated with their TwitterID?

In order for someone to receive your tweets, they either have to be following
you or following a list that has you added as a member.

[twitter-dev] Email address Search

2010-05-09 Thread Vaibhav Agrawal
Hello Team,

Is there any way to search friends/profiles on the basis of 'email
address' only?
We were trying to write an application and for that we have thought of
using the email address as the basic search criteria. ( As first name,
last name can be easily be duplicate in nature and we therefore want
the search to return 'only one profile' or 'none').

It will be of great help from your side if you can suggest some
solution.

Thanks in advance,
Cheers!

[twitter-dev] email used as login causing problems

2009-09-05 Thread twittme_mobi

Hello,

sometimes users login with their e-mail,
while my app is expecting username.
the user can login with no problems but later on, the app
is using the e-mail instead of login/screen name.

s there any way to get user id/screen_name from e-mail.
how can one overcome this problem?

Thanks!

[twitter-dev] Email Parameter Depreciated?

2009-04-09 Thread greg schoen

I'm working on an issue with my app that appears to be emergent very
recently... evidently I am no longer able to figure out what a user's
screen_name is, given their email address.

A request to /users/show.xml?email=greg.sch...@gmail.com returns this:

The email parameter has been deprecated
/users/show.xml?email=greg.sch...@gmail.com

I'm not seeing any documentation anywhere that would explain to me why
this would be. It seems like it just turned off with no warning, as
far as I can tell. Is this the expected functionality of this method
now?

[twitter-dev] Email to Twitter ID?

2009-03-16 Thread TjL

Q: Is there a way in the API to input an email address and output a
twitter username? I couldn't see anything in the API.

Background (for those who may be interested :-)

When TwitReport gets an email-forward from a user, it comes in
basically two formats:

1) Automatically forwarded by Gmail filter

2) Not Gmail

Gmail (and perhaps some other clients) will forward and maintain all
of the headers.

Most other mail clients, including Apple's Mail.app, will forward, but
will not maintain all of the headers.

This means that the headers telling me the Twitter username of the
person who sent me the email is lost.

WITH the Twitter username of the person requesting the TwitReport, I
can show some nice relationship graphs based on mutual followers, etc.

Without that, however, the reports are a lot less interesting.

Without an API way to make this lookup, I have a few (bad) options:

1) Scrape the content of the email looking for the name by looking for
the "Hi, RealName (TwitterName)."

2) Just don't offer this improved functionality

3) Maintain my own list/database of email addresses <--> Twitter
usernames that I manually compile/update.

4) Convince all users to switch to Gmail/Google Apps

I started with #1, got frustrated and gave up, moved to #2, and am now
getting requests for this functionality so I'm thinking about #1 vs #3
although frankly #4 is the best solution :-)

[twitter-dev] Email Headers for Follower Request

2009-03-13 Thread Arik Fraimovich

Hi,

I think that the idea of adding custom headers to your email
notifications was genius and sure made my life a lot simpler. My
question is - why there aren't such headers for the follower request
(for blocked profiles)?

Are there plans to add such headers to this messages too in the near
future?

Thanks,
Arik Fraimovich (@arikfr)
