I installed WinPcap several years ago, and found my PC less stable that previously so never used it. But I guess it's more reliable today. BMExtreme does have an option to work with WinPcap, and looking at the configure window it seems to have found WinPcap and was using it, which will explain how it's finding IP addresses. I've now forced it to use winsock monitoring (at least it claims so), and it's still grabbing IP addresses, so my original question still stands.
