Picnic and hike in Umstead State Park

Sun, 2005-04-10 12:30

Umstead State Park

Join us for a kickoff picnic and hike at William B. Umstead State Park. We will meet at 12:30pm at the picnic area at the Reedy Creek entrance to the park. Bring food and something to drink for the picnic. Then, between 1 and 1:30pm we will go for a 5-6 mile hike (2-3 hours) along the Company Mill Trail, a wooded trail that winds through the park and runs for a little while alongside a beautiful creek. This is listed as a moderate hike by the park.

Dress for the weather and wear comfortable hiking shoes. Bring water and snacks for the trail and food for the picnic.

For directions to the park see the park website. The park is located between Raleigh and Durham off of I-40. Take the Harrison Avenue exit (I think exit 287) and travel norteast into the park. If traveling east on I-40, make a left onto Harrison Avenue; if traveling west, make a right onto Harrison Avenue.
