VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY!

Special Olympics, Special Smiles will take place in
Raleigh on Saturday, June 2, 2001. Olympic Town will
be located outside on the campus of NC State
University in the Carmichael Parking Lot. We need
lots of volunteers, so let me hear from you!

Special Smiles was one of the first programs in the
Special Olympics Healthy Athletes program. The mission
of Special Smiles is to increase access to dental care
for Special Olympic athletes.

Dental screening helps to increase the awareness of
the athletes' oral health and to share this
information with their parents and/or caregivers.

You do not have to be a dental professional to
volunteer with the Special Smiles program. There are
many opportunities for you to be involved. Some of
the athletes need assistance in moving from station to
station. You may hand out goody bags or stickers.
You may record information for a dental screener.

Olympic Town will be open for athletes from 9:00 am
until 5:00 pm. There will be two shifts of
volunteers; 8:00 - 1:00 and 12:00 - 5:00. You are
also welcome to work all day if you would prefer. If
you work all day, lunch is provided for you.

The stations that we will be providing during Special
Smiles are dental screening, dental health education,
mouthguards and goodie bags.

I need the following information from each of you:

   Name
   Home address and phone number
   Shift you wish to work
   T-shirt size

Please let me know if you have any questions. Working
with these Special Olympians is a rewarding and
wonderful experience!

   Thanks,
   Martha
