We successfully used the following Linux shell script commands to
backup our UniVerse accounts:
# next line locks the uv database
/IBM/uv/bin/uv -admin -L
/bin/tar c $TARGET 2 $FILE.log | gzip -c --fast 1 $FILE.tgz
# next line unlocks the uv database
/IBM/uv/bin/uv -admin -U
