It might have been the options I was missing.

Bonnie,
I just tried using rcp -rp with a hashed file and it works fine. What is it
that doesn't work?

Thanks for all the info. We are using bscan to search and sort a very
large file and already have 18 indices (yikes) on one file. It might be
best to rewrite the app rather than adding more indices.

Does anyone know if there is a limit on the number of index files you
can build on a UniVerse Type 30 file?

Henry, What os are you running? Have you checked the size of your filesystem?
Thanks for all the responses. I'm ideally looking for a total AIX
solution and seems like I have some choices to research.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a method or product they have
used to take reports normally spooled to a line printer with preprinted
forms, and print them on alaser printer using a stored form and logo,
with the data overlaid. Ideally it should be transparent in that the
UniVerse report
permissions.
I wouldn't have found it without you telling me to look for a
subdirectory. Thanks a ton!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I am going to bite the bullet and
add the RAISE to all i-descriptors. Think I can come up with a BASIC program
to accomplish this. And learned about K=K in the process.
IBM's response is that this is a documented difference between UniVerse and
PIopen and
I like the idea of a replacement function, unfortunately, the filename is
not quoted in the i-desc so using my replacement function for TRANS will not
compile. I may be stuck with adding the RAISE.

If you're going to programmatically change a bunch of

the archives and found one homegrown subroutine but
I can't seem to get it work reliably.
Thanks for any help.

looks good, except how about something like:
FUNCTION ATRANS( F,K,P,X )
REMOVE DUM FROM K SETTING MORE ; check for any delimiters
K = K ; * reset rmv ptr in case calling pgm cares.
T = TRANS(F,K,P,X)
RETURN (IF MORE THEN T ELSE RAISE(T) )
We use pstill on unix platform and it works well. Not sure if it runs on
W2K.
