There is no need to upgrade to a later 6.0.x prior to upgrading to 6.1.
As 6.1 has only been in the field since August 10, there are few problem
reports.
We are starting on a round of 6.1.x patches, though - mostly to deliver a
fix to the ENCODE function for a partner.
6.1.1 for HP11-32 was just

We just had to laugh - Literally, we have seen directories (accounts)
with upwards of 4,000 files dictionaries!
We have around 100 000 files (incl dicts)...
We just have to ask now, in light of our recent conversations regarding
triggers, file performance, and JFS2, do your statements
The error occured during a simple EDit, not filing or compiling or even
adding anything. The source code was less than 300 lines, too. We don't
use SB+. I have a bogus TCL which is my own security feature, but I made
myself exempt and use 'real' TCL.
I'll do what Ray suggested and take a look at
As an administrator, I do all my programming in ED or vi. I even write
HTML with vi (vi=vim/gvim in all cases). I grew up on ED and don't mind
using it. Of course, I never run an 80x24 screen anymore. I'm in 80x60
so a 'P' gives me a large window of code.
Working in something one is used to makes
Dennis,
You don't need to keep all the files for an account in the same
directory. For example, in UniVerse, I routinely create files, move them
to separate directories (by content type) and manually adjust the F-pointer.

With Accuterm and a 19 inch monitor, I run WED with a font size of 10 and I
get 118 wide by 57 long! All very legible. :-) A full screen windows
interface, with all the standard short cuts, took me a whole half an hour to
master all the features.

I, too, agree with Stephen. We use file variables in named common
extensively. However, we have a few processes, CGI's in particular,
that launch anew each time they are invoked which makes named common of
little use for this purpose.
Thanks to all for the info.

Here is my process, gleaned from this group. UV 10.0.10 on MS2000
Server:
Start with number 1 and work up to 4 when the lower number doesn't work.
Use number 4 only as a last resort. The userno is from the LISTU
command and is the same as the PID in the Task Manager. I have never
had any luck
With the discussion of editors coming up again and again I thought I'd post
another note about this mvToolbox software. I am not selling the software,
nor do I get commission, etc.. I just think it's important for U2
developers to be aware that something this feature-rich is actually
available.
Does anyone know what this error message means below ?
The data buffer created for the UdtMonDynArray service in the
d:\unidata\Udtmon\UdtMon.dll library is not aligned on an 8-byte boundary
We are running Unidata 6.06 on Windows 2000.
